I've not had issues launching the app. That typically opens immediately. The issue I'd seen was stuttering and bogging down while the camera app is open. Usually it would happen in lower/poor light conditions. That being said 95% of the time touching the shutter button grabs the picture right away. I think what may be happening is stuff in the background is bogging the phone down, chewing up precious clock cycles. I've disabled auto app updating and I'm going to start filtering out some other items as well. Hopefully that'll make things better.
I just got my M8 Thursday coming from a 5S. I've found the camera really fast except in lowlight as well. It seems to have trouble focusing or determining to use the flash or not in certain lighting conditions. In all other situations the camera is really fast. Like Android Optimizer said, if it's in normal lighting sometimes I take more than one pic b/c I didn't realize the pic actually snapped. I just thought it was because of the suboptimal lighting
