HTC One (M8) car dock?

Re: HTC One M8 car dock?

My M8 is the At&t version, I've unlocked the bootloader but it's not rooted. I've never had a HTC car dock time out like that, with the stock car app. It sounds like a software issue, because my 3rd-party app, Car home Ultra works fine and doesn't time out. I'm not sure I would drill a hole in it, it seems too close.

Overall it's a nice dock, design wise. It's sturdy and I like the way it sits on my dash compared to my Ibolt universal dock. The negative part is that the software on the phone is glitchy. When I start my car, and the phone connects to Bluetooth it's nice, but every once a while it disconnects, and reverts back to the stock car app. It doesn't happen very often but, it's irritating when it does.

I just wish some day a company could make a nice universal dock, that I like. Ibolt is close, but not quite there IMO. Car docks are not high on the priority of accessories with phone manufactures now. I guess not enough people want them..

I thought of that, too, but it's too close to the USB plug. I've been using a cassette adapter, too. But, today I got a Bluetooth cassette adapter, and it works great...sound is as good as before, and no cables!

What Bluetooth cassette adapter did you purchase? Do you have to re-pair the adapter every time you use it? I saw one on Amazon, but the reviews are keeping me from purchasing. Thanks!

I got the radio shack one. You have to push the button on the side of the adaptor to start it ( if it's un-paired ), then it connects to the phone automatically when you put the phone in the dock.

Re: HTC One M8 car dock?

I've been using my HTC car dock for a few days now. It works pretty well, calls up the car app, and even turns on and connects to Bluetooth automatically.

Here's my worry. Having the phone docked on the dash, it gets VERY hot from the sun through the windshield. I suppose that anywhere you place the dock above the dash will cause the same result.

Any comments?

Re: HTC One M8 car dock?

My ProClip arrived last night. Adjustable for cases, seems to hold the M8 securely.

Hello. What model (PN) did you buy exactly? Does it launch CarMode App automatically when the phone is inserted?
Thank you, Witek.

This is the one I have: HTC ONE (M8) Large Universal Adjustable Holder for devices with a Case*-*ProClip USA
"HTC ONE (M8) Large Universal Adjustable Holder for devices with a Case"

As for pictures:
ProClip 1.gif
ProClip 2.gif
Proclip 3.gif

I have no association with ProClip but have used the iPhone mount for years. Their site can be a bit confusing. You need to pick a mount for your device, then a mount for your vehicle. I do have a power source I can connect when required which is not shown in the pictures.

Ok, so I ordered the ibolt xprodock for HTC, and while it does put the phone in car mode, I can find no way to switch from using the HTC car app to a 3rd party one. There are no defaults set for the HTC car app to make it ask which one you would like to use.

I'm guessing HTC just hardwired that when in car mode, you run this, not ask for what to run. Anyone know of a way to do this? The car app does give you the option of not loading it when the phone goes into car mode, so maybe if you used tasker you could autolaunch car home ultra or something..

I do not use bluetooth, btw, so this is a wired setup for me. Anyone have a different experience? I have my phone through t-mobile, so I don't know if it's different on other carriers.

so just got this one in mail Amazon.com: Dash Crab Duet One Touch Windshield Dashboard Universal Car Mount Galaxy Note 1/2/3, iPhone 4S/5/5S/5C, Galaxy S4/S3/S2 (Black): Cell Phones & Accessories . ordered from Korea instead of amazon (no shipping to Canada) . had the original dash crab and loved it, this new one is great, can mount phone with one hand due to spring load and it easily adjusts. suction mount is best i have had, doesn't come off and is mounted to my dash which has a rough texture.

I got tired of bluetooth issues. I've tried several different receivers and they were all either defective, frequently lost pairing information, or simply sounded like garbage.

So, I took my HTC Car Dock and drilled into it to make room for a hardwired connection to the 3.5mm audio jack. I got it working pretty good and the charger clip still holds solid.

I just successfully modded up my own car dock and it's working great!

My requirements were that it charge my device and go into car mode automatically. I strugged to find anything worthwhile. In addition, I can't really use a suction or dash mount and regardless, my preference is to use my existing Proclip mount.

Pictures follow. Unfortunately, I did not photo my progress but I'll do my best to describe the work.

The stuff:
SUPCASE All New HTC One M8 Case - Unicorn Beetle Premium Hybrid Protective Case (other cases may work, this one does)
MobilePioneer USB Data Sync Charging Cradle Dock Station for HTC One M8
Proclip Tilt Swivel Mount with AMPS Face Plate

The work:
Not too complicated here, but the gist is...
1. Align the back of the proclip plate to the back of the dock, flush with the top of the usb area, and mark the two bottom holes on the back.
2. Remove the foam footing on the dock to expose the screws, unscrew and dissasemble
3. Carefully drill out the holes to match the proper size to the plate
4. I inserted a small bolt from the back of the plate into the dock, so that only the bolt head was exposed, and that only from the back. Secure on the inside with a matching nut.
5. Re-assemble the dock
6. Attach the back of the swivel plate to the car mount (available at proclipusa.com)
7. Profit

The problem:
I did not realize at the time of purchase that this dock does not auto-launch any mode at all - it is strictly a charge/sync passthrough. I got around this by using AutomateIt (but any other automation software -- Tasker, Llama, etc -- will do the same). When I connect to my car bluetooth AND it is being charged, it auto-launches the Car app on the phone, effectively entering car mode.

Exiting car mode was another problem. I got around that one by using a great little app called Car Mode Control. For that, I used AutomateIt again -- this time when the BT disconnects, I run the app, which toggles car mode on/off.

Now it works just like a car dock should! Really stable, and really happy with this mod. I'll try to come up with some better pictures and of the rear of the mount as well. If you have questions, let me know.

I just got this one, based on your recommendation. I needed a mount that would hold my One M8 and my wife's One XL. It's rock solid and well made. As a bonus, the grip material is a near perfect match for my car's colour!

Glad you liked it 😁

For my wife's Kia and my MX-5 I have since also bought this to attach the Aduro to.

As good as it sticks, there was no real good places in either car to attach it that didn't look horrible. This particular CD slot adaptor works very nice and will attach to any dock that uses the 17mm ball like the Aduro. It's very solid. Who really uses a CD anymore anyways.

Armadillo, the other white meat.

Re: HTC One M8 car dock?

I'm thinking of getting this one, anyone here had experiences with this product yet?

Amazon.com: Mountek nGroove Snap 2 Magnetic Car Mount for Smartphones and Mini Tablets: GPS & Navigation

I have the grip version of it. It holds mine pretty well.

This is not mine, but it is a picture of a Mazda 6[I got a 6 too], this is pretty much what it looks like with the phone.

I'm also thinking about buying the original accessoire and want to plug it into the regular audio jack instead of using bluetooth. Do you mind posting a picture of the drilled hole? You are the first one on the internet who seems to have done this ;-)

I've got the HTC dock and was curious if anyone has had issues with a tempered glass screen protector? I don't use a case (why cover up a great looking phone?), but was unsure if the thickness of a tempered glass screen protector would interfere with the phone going in the OEM mount. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Hi guys, new here, just picked up my M8 yesterday.

Was looking at this new doc from Pro clip which uses a magnet system, and they have a pretty bold warning about using it on the M8:

I cant post link yet, to new, its called iOauto Pro Magnetic Mount

NOT for use with phones designed to detect manufacturer flip-case covers. This is strictly because the magnet can put the phone into sleep or docking modes. Known phones with this feature are the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Mega, LG G3, Moto G and HTC One (M8).

I spoke to a HTC rep and he said that the dot matrix case uses NFC to activate that mode and has nothing to do with magnets, but the guys at ProClip said their M8 screen would turn off the moment through brought it close to the magnet of the base.

Please chime in with any thoughts or experiences any one has had, thank you in advance.
