HTC One (M8) : is HTC advantage free screen replacement a scam?

I have one pretty deep scratch in my screen and wanted to use the free screen replacment. I want to do the $29 option.

However when I contacted customer support they said that they would charge me for any repairs to the device other then the screen. I have some scratches on one of the corners and some paint chipped on the speaker grills. Do they charge you lots of money for this?

This sounds like a scam. I get a free screen replacement but they charge me for other repairs. They say that the other repairs at not negotiable and I do not need to authorize any extra repairs. Basically they could charge me for repairs that I don't even want?

If anyone has used the HTC advantage screen replacement I'd like to hear how it went. Did they charge you for extra repairs? Were you happy with the repair process overall? If you haven't used it but you think it's a scam or not explain why?

thanks!

re:

Extended Warranty | Advantage | HTC United States

The $29 option isn't them fixing your device, it's them sending you a refurbished phone overnight and then you send yours in within 20 days.

Some important parts:

  • Full Replacement Value. In the event (i) you fail to ship your Original Device within twenty (20) calendar days of the shipment date of the Replacement Device, (ii) your Original Device is out of the warranty period at the time that it is shipped, or (iii) your Original Device is otherwise ineligible for any type of repair (in warranty or out of warranty), or the full cost of repairs exceeds the value of the Replacement Device, you authorize HTC to charge your Credit Card the full value of the Replacement Device.
  • Repair Cost. If your Original Device requires out of warranty repairs, you will be charged automatically for the full cost of such repairs, up to the full value of the Replacement Device.
  • Late Return. In the event you fail to ship your Original Device back to HTC within ten (10) calendar days of the shipment date of the Replacement Device, but ship the Original Device back to HTC within twenty (20) calendar days of the shipment date of the Replacement Device, you authorize HTC to charge your Credit Card automatically a late fee of $250. If you ship your Original Device to HTC more than twenty (20) calendar days after the shipment date of the Replacement Device, HTC will return it to you in its current state, without repair or diagnosis.

The screen repair only thing is free and it is 8-10 business days, you send your phone in and wait for them to send it back.
