HTC One (M8): Just saw the new ad with Gary Oldman

Re: Just saw the new ad with Gary Oldman

Well, we'll see , didn't work out too great for them the last time

I don't remember Gary Oldman asking me to "ask the internet" last time lol. It makes sense though, if I were to Google galaxy S5 (post embargo) or BlackBerry Q10 I'd get review results along with the official websites for each phone, as it is the review sites and the manufacturer sites that get the most traffic.

I meant last time in reference to hiring a celebrity and having a commercial that doesn't effectively provide you with any relevant information as to what the phone does, and why you need to get one.

Ah, my mistake. Right on the money there. At least this one asks the customers to do something that will make them learn about the phone. We'll see how it pans out.

Re: Just saw the new ad with Gary Oldman

My girl and I saw the ad last night while watching TV and it was DOA. She didn't show any interest in it at all despite being a Gary Oldman fan. Myself (also a fan), thought it was just weird and like last year's RDJ commercials a waste of an "A" list actor. It's as if HTC just doesn't get it. I feel like they simple don't have a clue how to properly market their product. If I were the CEO, I'd fire the entire marketing department and step down myself for continuing to approve such drivel. HTC makes a great product (looking past the sealed/embedded battery), but they consistently fail to effectively market that product. You'd think by watching Samsung and Apple, they'd get a clue what tier 1 marketing is about.... :(

Re: Just saw the new ad with Gary Oldman

How will they attract those who don't go to review sites or know that android central, phone arena, etc exist?

It's not difficult to google around. Let's be honest. People wanting this phone must be a bit tech-savvy. It's not easy to lure iPhone users that just buy each device every year or those that think that every Android phone is a Samsung phone. It didn't happen last year although the One was by far the best phone.
So HTC wants to lure these people that know a bit more, that read a bit more. Tell them not to trust the random film star, but to take a look.

I'm not sure if this is enough but it seems to me it has some potential. And of course it's not plain stupid as the one with RDJ was.
Although I'm a fan of ads that really show the product. As I'm not a fan of ads just making fun of the opponents (like Samsung or Nokia do for Apple).
My favourite HTC was one from a couple of years ago where they just show their phone during the whole day.

Re: Just saw the new ad with Gary Oldman

I was just browsing the YouTube and found what HTC should've really done for their Ad campaign

I disagree. This is a spec reel... it's not an advertisement. This isn't something you can show in a 30 second television spot, and if you did, everyone would fall asleep. It would catch no one's attention. Heck, even look at Samsung's advertisements... they do discuss specs, but they are typically "different" and attention grabbing, often through some humor.

Not saying that the commercial they created was great, but at least it's something different.
