HTC One M8 keeps locking itself

Hi guys/gals,

I have had my new M8 about 4-5 days, everything was going ok until the phone just randomly started locking itself while I was using it. Sometimes it just locks itself and I have to enter my pin to unlock, but it also locks and then shows the time, temp and weather using some strange pixelated yellow and white writing.

Anyone got any ideas how to solve this issue?

Sounds like you loaded an app that might be causing your issues.... did you load anything new since it was working correctly? You might want to unload any of those apps, or you might have made a change that is effecting the lock. Of course without some details on what you have done recently.

Seems to be happening on Twitter quite often, I'll re-install it and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.

Do you ever set it on something magnetic?

Not that I recall, bedside table is the only place I really leave it.

Do you have a flip case or some case with a magnet on it? Something (most likely magnetic) is triggering the screen to shut off and go into the dotview screen. A magnet can trigger it in the middle left on the front or back.

Actually, yes. The pouch I have has a magnet on the back.

I do have to take the phone out of the case to use it though, so this is occurring when the phone is not in contact with the magnet/case.

***EDIT*** You may have solved the issue, as soon I took it out of the pouch, rested it on the the pouch it locked itself!
I will have to wait and see if this fixes it for good.

That's really the only way it can happen. Unless there's a serious bug in your software. So just be careful around the magnet and you'll be all good

Thank you for the advice, I am sending back the pouch with the magnet and I'm going to use the case that came with the M8 for the moment. Thanks again.

If you go onto the 'dot view' application, and turn it off, it stops your case with a magnet on from locking your phone. I had the same problem and realized that it's because the dot view cases you can buy have a magnet in them which locks your phone when you close the case.
