HTC One (M8): Notification LED not working

I have verizon and the led notification is not working too. I got it last March 27 and I am bringing it back to verizon store. I tried the diagnostic test on the led and they were working but does not work for the text, email and other alerts. I tried to do a factory reset but still the same.

Had a Verizon M8 and the green notification LED worked and was very bright from very low angles. If you open the phone, the light goes out. Good luck.

I got the gun metal M8 (Verizon) that I got on launch day. My LED works great for everything (hangouts, gmail, etc.). Ditto on it being bright and viewable from wide angles. My only complaint is that it stops flashing after 5 min.

I am having this issue with my Verizon M8, the 2 display phones at the local Verizon store had the same issue. Tried the diagnostic on my phone and the light worked in diagnostic mode. Rebooted phone and had no luck with LED.

** Just received my Verizon update with supersaver mode and now my light is working. Must have been a fix in the update. **

Had this issue as well, factory reset solved it

I really wish they would get rid of the stupid 5 min. limitation to the blinking that all HTC phones seem to have. On other LED phones (N5, GS3, GS4, etc.) you can customize it and have it blink forever if you want. Not on HTC...5 min. and it turns off. And you can't customize it but that's not a huge deal.

My At&t version's light is working fine to stay on topic. :)

This is exactly why I cannot buy HTC phones any more. That 5 minute timer is a deal breaker for me... Custom roms (AOSP based) got me by a couple years ago but I don't like messing with them anymore. I need that light when I am at work and a 5 minute timer means it is kind of useless unless you look at your phone all the time. You can kind of get around it using certain apps like Handcent if you set it so that it flashes a notification reminder every 5 minutes or so but few apps have that ability. I am also not sure if apps like Lightflow work better with HTC phones than it did in the past. They didn't used to especially without root.

Just did a factory reset, still isn't working here.

It comes up when it's charging, orange then green when full, is not bright enough to be seen from all angles and no other colors display. Notifications are essentially dead and I don't want to toss away a phone that seems to be stellar in every other department except this one especially provided this can be fixed in a software update.

Again not to be hasty but can anyone take a video of what theirs looks like?

Terry, after your factory reset did you install of of your apps? It could be an app that's acting weird with it. You can try two things... 1 go into settings>accesability setting and make sure everything toward the top is turned off. Then text yourself and turn off the screen before it comes through. (may be obvious but double check the notification light for notifications is turned on in settings >display&gestures too) 2. Factory reset again and don't install anything until you do #1 to confirm its not an app

I actually did do what you suggested the first time around and it still didn't seem to work correctly :( I do appreciate the help though.

I'm just trying to gather as much data as I can about the issue because not only do the notifications have issues, but someone else here said their LED was bright and viewable from all angles, whereas mine can be stared straight into without any discomfort. This makes me wonder if it's not only a software issue, but a hardware one as well (at least in my particular case).

Sorry don't have a way to post a video but mine is pretty bright so maybe you are correct and have both issues

I followed your instructions #1 then #2....it seems that if you let the native software install first before setting up your existing Google account which may contain 3rd party apps, the LED notifications work fine...as a check, I sent many messages to myself during the course of the native software being re-installed after Factory Reset...once I was sure that the LEDs would work with all native software installed, I loaded my previously installed 3rd party apps ONE BY ONE and sent messages to myself during the various stages of download/install opps...when the apps I cared about the most had been loaded and the LEDs still worked, I stopped re-loaded old apps.....finally, I made a call to myself and the LED work in this case, as well...I am relieved....GOOD LUCK!!!!

I have an AT&T model, and no notification lights, and I REFUSE to do a factory reset after all of the hours that I've put into setting it up the way I want it!! I love the phone, so if anyone comes across a fix that hasn't already been mentioned, please let me know!! Thanks!!!

I have the ATT model and I get partial lights. It works on the phone, text, and the g-mail app. It doesn't seem to work for the native e-mail app. I have a few accounts on the native e-mail, and I don't get the light on any messages there (maybe it isn't supposed to?). Hopefully it is a setting or something an update will fix. I really don't want to reset at this point or return it. It would be nice to have, but I don't need it enought to do all that.

FYI, for all M8 phones that have working LED Notifications, if you have not already done so, install Light Flow as it will allow you to keep the LED flashing indefinitely....GOOD LUCK!!!

only problem I have with this app is that the LED won't turn off. When I turn off screen...LED remains!!! Is there a solution besides timed on the setting? Shouldn't it go away after I take action on the notice?

OK guys, the other poster was right. I have an ATT phone that wasn't working with notifications either. I reset everything, but did not put in my google info when the phone restarted. This let all the other stuff download first. After that, I put in my info and redownloaded each app. It was a huge pain to do, but everything works fine now. The green notification light that was so dull on my phone when the phone had completed charging is a lot brighter for notifications. It's not as bright as the galaxy or anything, but at least I can notice it. If you want your notification light to work, you have to format your phone and reset the system, then when all the intro stuff comes, skip it all, the only info I gave was my WIFI password, nothing else. Your notification light should work then.

Sorry, you ran into the same issue I discovered later on myself....The only way I was able to do it was to play with settings for the multiple notifications and whether the app or the phone is in control of the notifications....the constant lighting of the LED went away when there was no notification, but after 3 or so repeats of the notification sound, the LED went dark as did the sounds...so, we are still without a customizable LED notification system...

This is very irritating. Part of me just wants to switch back to Samsung.

Just got my M8 yesterday and chalk up another no LED notifications problem. Anyone have any other suggestions?
