HTC One (M8) On-screen Buttons Question

So the M8 now has on-screen buttons but why? Is there an advantage to this? Perhaps no one knows the answer to this but why did HTC leave that black bar with just the logo in place AND remove the capacitive buttons? I think on-screen without the extra black bar/HTC logo would be better and allow for larger display.

The old button layout is confusing and difficult to use. The new layout is simple, adaptable, and screen real estate isn't really lost thanks to transparent nav bars.

The space below the screen is for the screen digitizer. Its on every phone, and cannot go where Boomsound is because, as you may have guessed, that's where Boomsound is.
