HTC One (M8) or Samsung Galaxy Note 3?

Re: M8...or Note 3

I understand that, however when we look at the usual product schedules, now doesn't make the best time to get the note 3, it makes more sense to wait a few more months IMO . That's what I've been doing, I had my upgrade since February 1st, and will wait till the fall to get a new phone cause I know getting one now doesn't make sense for me when I know I will regret it .

Ehh, I guess you have a point, in regards to the Note 3. I'm leaving heavily toward the M8, but the Note 3 crossed my path today and shifted things around! lol ... like I said its a never ending battle with this technology stuff, but we love it anyway!

Re: HTC One (M8) ... or Note 3

Ahhh....tough choice- tough choice.
I have an old Samsung Galaxy Player 5", that I've been using for four years.
It has pretty good stereo speakers (on the back though) and I use that feature constantly.
Set the device on a desk or beach blanket or wherever you're hanging out for a while- and listen to music without headphones.
For me, very useful. Sometimes headphone wires are just a PITA and cutting yourself off acoustically from the world can be poor- or dangerous.

Anyway, that's a big one for me...and as much as I like photography, I still have a separate decent camera. I would miss the Note's 5.7" screen- that, to me, is a really ideal size. And since I'm doing sketching and design-related stuff all the time, marking up drawings, etc, that functionality would be tremendous.

I agree, that if you're getting the exact functionality you want, you can put a metal case on the Note 3 (you can, right?)...but as a designer, there's something about the inherent design quality that's very attractive. I really admire apple for this. I know it's subjective, but for me the design aesthetic of the iPhone is vastly superior to any Samsung device. It's like comparing a Lamborghini to a Toyota. Toyota's are great, but a Rav4 or a Toyota Camry is certainly in no way comparable to a Lamborghini visually. Toyotas are made to appeal to the largest quantity of people as possible and still be affordable. LCD design, which is what Samsung does.

Maybe Sammy will bring in some new design blood and put the Note 4 in a well-designed skin and add forward-facing stereo speakers...
probably not though. Not if they're trying to sell 100 million units.

Re: HTC One (M8) ... or Note 3

I just returned the M8 after trading my Note 3 on the Verizon Edge program. I only needed 48 hours to know that the Note is the phone for me. In the last three weeks I went from a Droid Maxx (great phone which I gave my daughter), to the Note 3, to the HFC one M8, and back to the Note 3. I absolutely love the screen on the Note 3. It took me less than a day to get used to it. Although the build quality on the HFC is outstanding, the screen seems far smaller. I compared it to my daughters Droid Maxx, and the screen on the Maxx is bigger. The on screen buttons take up some serious real estate. I don't think the usable screen is more than 4.7 inches. I will say that the HFC has outstanding sound quality though; the best I've ever heard from a smartphone. The camera wasn't a concern for me, but it seems to be for everyone else that has an issue with the device. I've never owned a Samsung phone until a couple weeks ago as I always felt like they were "cheaply made", but I no longer feel like that's the case. I do like the leather back on the Note 3 (fake I know), and regardless, the phone goes in a case before I leave the store.

The HFC is very fast, but certainly not any quicker than the Note 3, and I think most of the Benchmark tests I've seen confirm this. I don't think you can go wrong with either device, but I really prefer the screen on the Note 3 even if it does have slightly lower pixel density. To think I was going to get an iphone 5s before deciding on the Note! My wife has a 5c, and it looks like a toy it's so small. I did like the M8, but I wish they would have truly given it a 5.0 inch usable screen. If you haven't already, put both phones side by side. There really is a big difference in screen size, but no so much overall size.

It's HTC, not HFC....

Indeed it is HTC. I shouldn't be reading my mortgage statement from HFC when typing about a phone by HTC.

Re: HTC One (M8) ... or Note 3

I've had my eye on the Note 3 for a while. I like the 5.7" screen, and the stylus/drawing apps would be useful in my professional life (architectural designer ). But I'm tired of Sammy's lame and tired p cheap plasic housings (on a $700 device, that's almost unacceptable to me)..and the tired old TouchWiz doesn't do much for me.

The build quality on the M8 is very impressive and now that it sports a micro SD, it's a very attractive option. I also REALLY like having forward -facing stereo speakers. But I'd have to accept the mediocre camera and useless dual lens and Zoe gimmicks and of course wouldn't get the stylus.
or a removable battery.

So, I'm stuck on the fence. Anyone in a similar position or have advice based on experience with both?
Thanks.

I would wait for the note 4.

The Note series is just a different class of phone.

Why don't you buy the Note 3 at a retailer like Best Buy or Radio Shack. There is no restocking fee if you return it. If you don't like it exchange it for the M8.

Right now I have a Note3 and a Moto X. I was seriously considering the M8 because of the GPS problems with the AT&T Note 3, but they seem to be resolved with the upgrade to KK. I might buy it anyway to try it out. The Note is just a bit too big and the X a bit too small. The M8 might fit right in between.

I've played with both and I to am leaning towards the note 3 that thing is a beast after finally handing the two the note just fills so nice in the hand an business like

For the most part every new phone is pretty amazing. I was just telling a good friend who is in the market for a new phone the same thing, in others words it's really hard to go wrong. It's just a matter of focusing in what's important to you (good and bad).
Someone earlier had mentioned getting either at Best Buy for a trial run....maybe worth a try.
I currently have the Note 3 and original HTC One M7 and for the most part love everything about both of them. I went to upgrade the M7 for the M8 but found the screen to be a little small for the overall size of the phone. The M8 is close in size to the Note 3 with a significantly smaller screen? Not sure why they did that. But then again screen size may not be a big issue for you.
The M8 is gorgeous with an incredible design and construction, hard to go wrong. Aside from the screen issue, both phones are very similar in performance.
Good luck and I hope I helped a bit with your decision making.

Yeah, I have. It's surprising that the footprints are closer than you'd think. The Note 3 is very thin too.
This is a very tough choice. I think as much as I want the functionality and screen size of the Note, dealing with one little crappy speaker is just going to be too much of a stretch; I use the stereo speakers on my old Samsung constantly.

You know...I'm tempted, but realistically Samsung is probably going to put a plastic case on it AGAIN, and complicate TouchWiz even further, add fingerprint sensors, retina scanners, heart monitors, lie detectors, airspeed indicators and pH analysis...and charge another $100 for it. Thy;ll add the most current processor and kick the screen resolution up even further, but I don't have a lot of faith that Samsung is interested in changing anything up very much.

And I think that's the difference between Samsung and HTC. The galaxy phones, while still being great devices, don't actually bring a whole lot of innovation to the table. HTC on the other hand has taken some big risks trying to change the whole smartphone experience. Love it or hate it, HTC is definitely trying new things.

So the s pen and all it's features don't bring innovation? Htc takes big risks? Where? You sure you aren't confusing the two?

A smart stylus is hardly innovative. HTC was the first phone manufacture to include stereo front facing speakers last year and now this year the first device to feature two camera lenses. Nope, definitely not confusing the two.

Re: HTC One (M8) ... or Note 3

I had the M7 - got it when it came out last year. I tried the Note 3 - returned it after 10 days. Touch Wiz is terrible. That's the main problem with it. Also just a tad big for my taste.

Just upgraded to the M8 and couldn't be happier. The phone is fantastic - I can't think of anything I would change at the moment. I think its a no brainer -

A smart stylus, multiple apps on one screen, I'm sure the bulk of the features from the s pen weren't done before. None of the features you talk about for the one are groundbreaking or really innovative, two camera lenses but it only allows you to change the focus, and a front facing speaker grill on a cell phone? Not really groundbreaking things that drastically affect a users experience.

Re: HTC One (M8) ... or Note 3

I had the Note 3 about 4 months ago. I said at the time it was the best Android phone I've even had, and I have a lot. I sold it though because it was just a little too big for me, and I regret it now. Even on Saturday when I was in the Verizon store waiting for my M8, I couldn't stop looking at the Note 3. And to my surprise I actually used the S-Pen. It was great for quick notes, or to cut out a section of a pic and send to someone. Dang, now I miss it again. But I really like the M8, and have been a fan of HTC since my DNA.

As BBSeattle said, you really can't go wrong anymore with any newer phone, no matter the platform.

I have had the same feeling. I had the Note 2 and sold it; quickly regretted that decision. Had the Note 3 and sold it. Now every time I see a Note 3 commercial I miss it.
