HTC One (M8): screen won't turn back on

is this the same "magnet" issue that you are talking about? This is now my wake screen when coming out of sleep and hitting the power button. Using the Smart Launcher Pro with my HTC One M8 Android (Verizon).

Thanks.

I turned my phone on this morning and it looked like an old school television where the picture was rolling with static. I figured I'd restart it, which worked fine except for one thing: The screen will not turn on. It vibrates, I got a notification that it was my turn in a game, the Power/VolumeUp trick makes it restart (I can hear the restart chimes), but the screen has nothing on it. I'm semi-devastated here.

You seriously just made someone's day at tec support. The phone I got from Verizon was perfect, it had no problems until I woke up one day with a crack down the middle. Ever since then, I've been having to send my phones off to HTC for other problems, the next phone they sent me, the volume didn't work, needless to say, I have had to replace 2 different phones, the one I have now is phone number 3. If I couldn't find a way to get the phone to come back on, somebody was about to have a very... very bad day.
I like this phone, but at this rate, with all of the problems, I would not recommend it to anyone!

I'm having almost the exact same issue right now :o I've been really happy about my htc one m8 so far. until last week, it started freezing and crashing every now and then. I just tried installing the app "cc cleaner" I thought that might work. but it couldn't even download it. So I tried rebooting it. My phone took a little longer to turn off and has never turned on since. I thought after waiting some time it would fix itself. I've slept for 3hours and nothing has changed. My phone was also in the charger and the battery level was at 100% so there was a green led. the green led is still on but the phone won't boot up, not even in recovery mode.

Old thread but this might come up again so here's my 2-cents.

I was having this problem really bad. Two, three times a day at it's worse. I tried uninstalling apps, clearing cache, Dalvik and so on. No dice. But I did figure it out.

It was my micro SDcard. There was nothing wrong with it other than it was maxed out. It was like 97% full. That was from the TWRP backups I had made and a large number of photos taken recently. I transferred most of them to my PC and no problems since.

So, if you're having problems with the infamous "black screen of death", try clearing out internal and external memory, or replacing the external SD altogether.
