Re: HTC One M8: Slow Wi-Fi?

I have the exact same problem, especially with Youtube, HD mode is useless on WiFi, the videos just stop loading and it spins and spins. I have similar speed test result, actually fantastic but no matter what I try, Youtube won't load in HD and no one has a clue what's wrong. The moment I put it into LTD mode, even with a poor connection, the video loads almost all the way right away and plays straight thru. Hopefully someone will figure it out! Thanks for posting! Mike

Were you using youtube in your web browser, or the youtube app? The app used to perform consistently slower for me.

I had the same issue. Very slow downloads via WiFi on my m8. Turns out it was the Comcast router. It's one of those all in one's. I hooked up a regular router to it after bridging them ....problem solved. Hope this helps.

Yeah you're Router is gonna make a huge difference. I have a wireless - ac Router at home and get really fast wifi. At work I have a wireless - n Router and my wifi was 1/10th that of home. I updated my router at work, now it's much better.

I have the same problem and its very frustrating, as I dont get notifications from apps. If i turn wi-fi off, then turn it back on it works fine.

Re: HTC One M8: Slow Wi-Fi?

No problems here (TMO M8 w/ ARHD 5.0 ROM)

Everything in my house is Wireless N (except my desktop which is wired since the router is right there just out of convenience).

My WiFi at home is completely normal on both my 2.4ghz N and 5ghz N connections. I get about 3MB/s download (30 megabit give or take the 1024 conversion). Same as all my other wireless devices, and my computer averages a bit more consistent due to being wired, but no real discrepancies to report.

No issues w/ disconnects, etc. I should say, though, that my wifi isn't on 24/7 on my phone. As a battery saving habit I turn off mobile data and turn on wifi when I get home, and then flip it when I leave the house. So my wifi is off when I'm at work and I turn it on once I get home again. Once I am on the local WIFI, though, I have no issues w/ disconnects, timeouts, or general connectivity.

Re: HTC One M8: Slow Wi-Fi?

I was getting annoyed at slow Wifi speeds at home on my M8. My 2.4Ghz N network would connect at about 24mbps and the 5Ghz N would connect at 54mbps, so my speetests with these were absurdly slow. This was even more infuriating since I have a 100mbit ISP. I'm with T-mobile and my test with them was around 40mbps, so that made it even worse.

Started doing some research and saw it may have been a router issue as well. I'm running a Netgear WNDR3700 with DDWRT installed. I went back in and changed some of my frequencies as well as the encryption from TKIP&AES to just AES thanks to an online suggestion, and now my 5ghz network connects at 150mbit and the speedtest maxes out the line speed.

I would like to confirm if anyone gets higher speeds than this on a 5ghz N connection, since my laptop connects at 300mpbs on the same network, I would have expected the same speed on the phone. Thanks.

Sounds about right...5ghz N @ 150Mbps for the M8. The M8 uses a single spatial stream, 1 antenna. Each stream equals 150Mbps, more or less. If you connected with 2.4ghz N your rate would be 72Mbps, more or less. Can someone verify? I assume your laptop uses 2. Mine does and it connects @ 300Mbps via my 5ghz N. My M8 connections to my wifi via 5ghz AC @ 433Mbps.

I have a similar issue that I have fought with for a while. Both my home and work connections will slow to a crawl. And the WiFi will drop and reconnect within a matter of a second, and everything will be good again. Might be a little different than what the rest of you are experiencing but it sounds about the same. I think it's an android issue. I've tried everything else.

Same problem here, only with youtube. I am completely unable to watch any video. If I use chrome to acces a website, everything is fine.

Ah, thank you for clearing that up. Didn't know it was a number of antennas issue, but it makes sense now.

I have xfinity, and I have a EVO 4G LTE and HTC ONE 8M. My EVO would always have 40Mbps down and my HTC ONE would always get 21Mbps down. The one thing that worked for me was to turn OFF my bluetooth. The bluetooth was turned off on my EVO, as soon as I turned it off on my HTC one instant increase in download speeds.

Im pretty sure the old EVO 4G shared a single antenna with WiFi and Bluetooth.
I remember having the same issues with my WiFi and the EVO 4G or Evo 3D.

I had this problem too, had a ping of over 900 and a download speed of 0.10mbps. I simply disconnected from my wifi and reconnected and results from same server came back 73 ping and 7.65mbps which is right for my area.

Seems a pain if this has to be done regular, I had an iPhone for 4 years and don't think I ever had to disconnect manually.

I don't know if this helps, but I had a similar issue on my Samsung Galaxy S5. Whenever I was on my home Wifi, certain apps were slow; mainly Facebook and Instagram. Turned out to be my SIM card. I wasn't using the SIM card that came with the phone when I ordered it. I just stuck the card from my old phone into it, because the new card didn't work; I didn't realize that you had to call and activate it. That and, my old card looked exactly the same. But, it turned out that the newer card contained much newer technology. I activated it, put it in the phone, and now it works great. Hope that helps!

i had problems with the apps of youtube, facebook, instagram, but not with chrome or whatsapp...

found this solution to fix it, tried it and now it looks like the problems are gone. maybe it works for you too

  1. Open page with the available "Wi-Fi" networks (Settings, WI-FI)
  2. Tap on the "3 dots" in the upper right corner
  3. "Wi-Fi Direct"
  4. Tap on the "3 dots" in the upper right corner
  5. "Rename device"
  6. Replace "Android_ed2c" with "HTC One" (or whatever you want) and hit "OK"

Unreal. While I have no idea why this works. It worked for me. My WiFi which has been chronically slow now suddenly works the way it was meant to be on my HTC One M8. Thank you for this tip.
