HTC One (M8) ("The All New One") seen in 'leaked' video

Re: HTC M8 ("The All New One" seen in 'leaked' video)

Oh ok. Still can't blame him much, sure he made a bad decision, but we all have to remember he's a kid and the phone didn't appear out of thin air, someone obviously gave it to him or at the least made him aware of the fact that it's a new device.

He still knew he wasn't supposed to show it though. He mentioned that to be nice to HTC he would wait a while to release it from when he filmed it. He also kept 'trying' to cover up the device sticker on the back which holds the device ID numbers, so he knew it wasn't supposed to be shown.

I still don't believe he understood the consequences of his actions

I have never had nor heard of that problem, lol. Unless you are literally charging your phone multiple times per day none of that should be happening

The Galaxy S3 had a known issue where the charging port would eventually stop working properly. I had a friend with that issue on his S3. Over time on my One the port got a little looser. I didn't use it long enough for it to become problem, but I could tell that it will eventually. Not to mention you can actually see the wear on the polycarbonate around the port itself from the plug.

I'm actually using a gs3 right now and checked earlier and saw no evidence of damage.

Since I haven't heard of this before regarding any phone , I'm assuming it's not a widespread issue.

I know someone else that had a myTouch 4G with this issue. Depending on your definition of "widespread" it may or may not be. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I've personally never had a port "break" or stop working on me either.

I have never had an SD card go bad on me, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Likewise, I never had any issues with the camera on my One, but that doesn't mean they didn't exist on other devices.

Edit: I love wireless charging on my Nexus, but if the M8 doesn't have it (it's aluminum, so I'm not holding my breath), and I like everything else about it more than other devices that are also out, it won't be a deal breaker for me. It's more of a tie breaker for me.

Yea of course it doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but it's not a widespread issue for phones.

Looks like I was editing as you were quoting. Oops lol

No problem.

The one really doesn't impress me at all to be honest, I don't really get the hype.

Not that it's a bad device or anything, but I just don't understand what exactly this phone does to stand out from the pack. It certainly doesn't have any key software features that make it attractive (I don't care about camera software, I barely use mine as is).

But none the less I'm keeping an eye on it to see if anything interesting regarding it come up.

That's exactly what I thought about the S4 (and others). :P

Really? Interesting. So what, outside of hardware, design, etc. Makes the one like stand out to you?

The two things I look for most in a phone are a quality display and camera that can take the pic when I need it to. At the time I felt that the One did those two things better than anything else (low light camera performance is important for me, as well as shutter speed). The One had almost unquestionably the best display in a phone up to that point.

The Nexus 5 came out and had a much better display in any area that can be measured, and the camera performance was on par if not better than the One in every area. The One still captures more light, though, but I'll take the trade for detail in low light.

Other than hardware I like Sense 5. It seems to run really well, doesn't add any features that I consider useless, and what HTC did add was useful, or at least not wasted, for me. I never minded BlinkFeed because I can just forget about that homescreen, but I found myself using it sometimes for news aggregation.

Oh ok. I look for useful features that I can't already get via other phones or apps ( which would wipe blink feed off the map, because I use feedly as it works across all my devices), display size and quality, and most importantly battery and battery options .

As well as functionality with my other devices. So right now I'm leaning towards the iPhone 6(just got an iPad and will get a MacBook this summer so an ios device would probably be the best route to go) or the note 4 (screen size and features make this a good option)

Yeah we definitely look at things a little different. I figure that you can't upgrade the screen or camera module once you buy the phone, so if I can get a software feature from an app that's perfectly fine with me. I think that's why I place hardware components above software stuff most of the time.

I'm big into Google services already so my phone/PC/tablets all work together quite well as it is.

I'm pretty big into them as well, and love that I can still access Google now on ios, and that was one of the key features for Android.

Also, siri has been great, always heard my commands, and I also love the ios notification bar. I hate having to see every stupid icon pop up on Android when I have a notification. Now on ios, I only see those on my lock screen and when I pull down the notification drawer.

Geez...I have had problems with a charging port on multiple devices as well as a bad SD card...but that was caused by the crappy phone I had. I love my Moto x, but Motorola hasn't always stood for quality and frankly they are lucky I gave them another chance.
