HTC One M9: Android Police Review

Re: Android Police Review

You know what, although I don't have enough evidence to support my gut feeling, I'm 100% certain there is something going on with the software that's causing the less than expected battery life I've been seeing from both the M9 and S6. So I'm wondering if it's the customized software or the underlying OS and its services that are causing it.

My nexus 9 drains the battery rather quickly. It hasn't been updated to 5.1. I wonder if there will be battery life improvement once updated

Bravo! Too many people fell into the trap of wanting the newest. Fact is newest is never best in value/price ratio. They may not even be better than older generation phones.

Truth is most phones nowadays can last more than 2 years, with replaceable battery, more than 4 years, there is no need to force upgrade if current generation products aren't as good as one would like.

I've been reading a lot about M8 custom ROMs and the battery life they are achieving are phenomenal, SkyDragon have just released Sense 7 with amazing battery life too!

The fact these guys are capable of it means they may do the same for the M9. Providing it's not an 810 issue

Re: Android Police Review

So when they say it is the best phone around right now, they are not including the S6...

"It doesn’t blow the best phones of last year out of the water, but the M9 is still the best phone around right now. Having said that, if you’re looking to upgrade soon you’d be wise to wait for this year’s competition to arrive. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4 will be with us any time now, and they promise to give this classy, metal-clad flagship a real run for its money."

Re: Android Police Review

If you read all the articles associated to HTC from the past two years and the comments in them, you'll see that HTC is not looked upon favorably by many (both the writers and commenters). I could be wrong though, but I have plenty of evidence to support my claim.

I don't know about this...the M8 was widely considered one of the best phones of the year last year from what I have read and heard. I just think people were expecting more with the M9 and in some ways it was a step backwards or at best more of the same.

My point wasn't that the M9 is better than every other phone out there. I was merely pointing out that some people do actually think it's better than the M8, as an argument was made that no reviews thought the M9 was better than the M8.

I gave up on HTC in 2012 when I bought a brand new HTC one x from an Alaska carrier. Lord behold my version of the HTC one x could not be upgraded as there was no check for update option in the software. HTC gave me the run around. Showed me what HTC is all about. When I saw the M9 I was not surprised HTC would go backwards.

I bought a M7 and had...and continue to have the exact opposite experience as you, so what's your point? Guess my experience cancels out yours and we can move on.

I just have a grudge against HTC. That's all.

I think that's the problem with a lot of people. They just have a grudge against a certain OEM. I'm biased towards HTC simply because I've only owned one phone that wasn't HTC. HTC INSPIRE 4G»Sony Xperia T»HTC One M7»M8»M9. Until they make a completely horrible phone, I'll stick with em. They make the perfect one for me.

From my fingers to you on the M8, M9 or the Chromebook! :D

Meh. So you think it's productive to come on this thread and rag on a 4 year old phone nobody on here cares about? Let it go...
Actually I have. I'm open to HTC if they make a the best phone available.

I have some theories on the M9.

A. HTC knew what the hell they were doing with this device. Not to say they purposely messed it up. But it's obvious there is a division in the company where teams aren't working together and information isn't being shared.

B. HTC went with a minimalist approach because they are hoping to make a bang with the M10. Saving the best features and a design change for next year. If they have refused to change the design for next year...they are done.

C. HTC is about as clueless as Forrest Gump. People running for the door at HTC makes me conclude that they are in trouble. And they have no clue how to make the best smarphone ever. Their intentions were good but it was like they ran everything by a 5 year old (Chou). I'm sure someone said we shouldn't have a square lens and three buttons down the left side of the device.

I'm sorry, but nobody can sit here and tell me that the sensor/flash both being circular should not match the camera lens shape. The camera lens should be circular. That's aesthetics 101 in design school. Then throw a black bumper on top of the lens. If Chou was trying to mimic Steve Jobs, he did a poor job.

And theories they shall remain. Utter rubbish - Adam

For some odd reason Adam, you like to comment on things when people are really trying to ignore you. I assume you don't have a lot of friends and you frequent this forum in order to make yourself relevant. Nobody comes here to be chastised by your negative comments. If you don't have anything constructive to say then I think a lot of us wouldn't mind if you took your ball and went home. Someone complains about their phone and you are all over them like a cheap coat. If it makes you feel better to put people down because of how they feel about a product I think you should visit the tablet forum or something. That type of behavior isn't necessary on this forum. Seems like you sit in front of your computer with a red bull waiting for the next complaint about the M9 to roll in and then you pounce like an out of control cat. Enough is enough bro.

Re: Android Police Review

As a user of a BlackBerry Z10 I would have to say that their BB10 OS is actually great. But they allowed themselves to fall behind and made such a great OS a little too late and lost their market share.

The OS is fluid and has some elements I will miss greatly when I switch to the M9 such as the HUB and the swiping gestures that are so simple and just make sense.

It is not without it flaws though, clearly, as I am switching to Android. The main reason being the app gap and the focus on enterprise vs. Consumer. No high end touch device is lined up so I'm filing out.

Reviews online are just that. Until I try something out for myself I will never know if it works for me. Reviewers in tech see and touch everything so they compare it all. Does that mean it isn't good for your needs? Not at all.

If you are passing up on the M9, then pass up on posting about it and move on to a forum critiquing the next device you will actually buy.

Ditto on the BlackBerry!

I ordered my M9 early this morning. I shall judge it for myself.
But enjoy real, constructive reviews.

Your the one who needs to to grab your ball, I actually have the M9 and know what a great device it really is. You on the otherhand base everything you "know" about the device on reviews (obvious because its the same things constantly repeated like "Chou leaving", "Camera Sucks", "Screen Sucks", "M8 superior"). We get that you don't like the phone and have no interest at all in purchasing it but don't go spreading nothing but negativity upon everyones threads.

Next time you decide to make a post/thread just tell yourself "everyones heard it all before time and time again" and then refrain from uttering a single word.

Even better go buy the device then I might be able to take anything you say more seriously - Adam

I do have to wonder about your B theory. But I'm not even sure if I would say that they were saving features for an M10.

There are those rumors about the M9+ and it sure does look like it brings more to the table, at least on the spec sheet. 5.2 inch QHD screen, 3GB RAM, Duo Camera, fingerprint scanner. Which makes me all the more hesitant to invest in an M9 because if they do have this up their sleeve it'd feel like they just duped a whole bunch of people into getting a seemingly half-baked refresh of the M8.

The only thing that has me doubting this is the fact that its rumored to have a MediaTek 6795T processor. Which could mean that it is an Asia exclusive device. Then again, with the problems that the 810 is having its possible that this may have been some sort of "backup" plan.

I saw a video on youtube where someone was saying companies do theory "B" a lot. If they didn't do it that way, its not profitable for a company to give us everything in one phone. Aka - the perfect phone. The guy was saying companies for smartphones always have projects going on behind the scenes and they strategically decide what to include in a phone and what to save for the next time. HTC came out with the first 3D smartphone. So I know their R&D is working hard to jam pact their next device with features. But I could be wrong and HTC has ran out of ideas but I think that is less likely.

Thanks for not calling my theories rubbing. Just brainstorming.
