HTC One M9 call from messages problem

I just got a used M9 (Verizon branded). I am using it on PagePlus. The problem is the call from messages shortcut doesn't work. The message+ works but not messages. I've tried to get help from HTC without success. I am hoping someone here has had similar problems and can help a newbie out.
