HTC One not for me, not now anyway. HOLD UP! Now it is.

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

People still say this?

Yeah. The same people who still say, "I'm rubber and you're glue; whatever you say bounces off me and sticks back to you." :D

Or the kids who like to reply first to a thread and type, "First!"

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

Some valid issues. I have a few of the same issues. (Odd multi tasking and damn 3 dots on most of my apps lol) still a great phone I think. Although I think I will still consider adding an s4 to my line up. Prior to getting my One I wasn't considering a S4

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

Guys don't get me wrong. It is a great phone. Generally the fastest and most well built phone I have ever had. I have had them all it seems lol. Every major phone since the HTC Hero.

I do not know what the deal is with the multitasking. Like I said, if I have one app open working on something and get a phone call or switch to another app for a bit of time the app would restart and I would lose the information I was working on. The other issue with OS was it would not recognize the home or back button unless pushed multiple times, not sure what that was about.

Battery life, I will not knock, as I did not give it time for the battery to break in. Plus, my use is well above average.

My current setup for business is an iPhone 5 and a Galaxy S2. The S2 is basically being used for a tablet because the app I use is on Android. I was really hoping to go to one phone and for it to be the One.

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

That is what I thought, but the use was very heavy. Navigation for about 30 minutes. Then 1.5 hours using forms on an app. Again consider the screen was on the whole time. I do not fault the phone, as much as I do the usage, but this was my experience.

No that wasn't your experience! You are wrong. The phone is perfect, you're holding it wrong! (Sarcasm).

If someone is subjective in regards to our favorite phone, we get mad and try to argue what they experienced. But if we're trying to help a noob have better battery life, we suddenly are all about how usage can vary, signal strength can vary, apps might be running rogue. Funny how that change occurs. Can't we live above the Steve Jobs mentality that if someone had a negative experience with our favorite phone that maybe our lives might just continue? The guy gave a good, sound review based on his needs in a device. I want the One pretty bad even after reading what he said. But I still appreciate hearing pro's and con's so that I can consider an angle that I might not have otherwise been aware of.

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

Galaxy Note 2 is probably the best choice based on your job. Battery life is excellent, easy multi-task and lots of camera settings.

Thanks for a very clear review based on your experience.

I'll second these sentiments. Battery life is exceptional and as you do a lot of multitasking, you may find the multi-window functionality very useful, especially with the larger screen. S-Pen may also make form completion much easier. And if you are able to burn through the Note 2's battery, you could just swap it out and keep going.

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

Long story short. I paid a premium to get the ATT HTC One early. Like you guys, I am a phone fanatic and an early adopter. So, why did I not keep it? First lets talk about the good.

Positve
Build quality: All of you have heard about it and it is undoubtedly one of the best build qualities ever. Much better without a case, than with though. Size is great without, with a case for me it's just too much.

Screen: Wow. Just looks phenomenal, best screen ever.

Sense 5: For the most part I liked it. This phone is generally blazing fast. Fastest I have ever used.

Blinkfeed: Works great, but you kinda need to be into RSS feeds or social networking for it to be worthwhile.

Camera: Coming from an iPhone 5. I believe the camera was good for normal use. Great in low light.

Zoes: Works as advertised.

TV Remote: Loved not looking for the remote and easy to setup. More options would be great.

Negative
Sense 5: I am not sure why HTC has not figured out multitasking by now. I use my phones for business. In fact, my business is almost entirely done through apps. For example: While feeling out forms, if a call comes in or I switched to text messaging for a few minutes. All of the info on my forms would be lost. The app would restart and the information I was working on would be gone. This is not acceptable for business. Especially seeing has how I am back to using a Galaxy S2 that does multitasking with ease. Also, sometimes the buttons, Back and Home become unresponsive. I am not sure why and hope that it can be fixed during an update.

Camera: The camera app for the HTC One will not allow you to change MP. My job requires smaller sized photos. Usually 2.0MP. There is no option to change the size.

Battery Life: My work requires quite a bit of screen on time. The battery drain to 57% within 2 hours. For me, this was not acceptable.

So, all in all. This is a great phone. Just for me and my use it did not workout. If the multitasking issue and the unresponsive button issue is fixed. I would most certainly reconsider.

All you have to do for the multitasking is to double tap the home button. How on earth did the battery go down 43% in 2 hours? Where you running benchmarks in the background while streaming Netflix over LTE at full brightness while streaming it wirelessly to your tv all with your boom sound speakers blasting at full volume?

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

LOL, that may have been sarcastic, but it was funny. As for the multitasking, should be easy to replicate. Open and start an app mess around with other apps. See if it restarts the app you were working on. Yes hitting the double tap and going to the app. I still have the One and will see if I can get it to do it with different apps.

Happens to me also but seems random when it happens.

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

I've been using mine non stop since it got here at 2pm and it's 10 now. I am JUST hitting 10%. I think its in your head. And multitasking. It's android. You will always have problems with something. But all the positives out weigh the negatives. You should look at the iPhone I hear they are dropping the price because of falling stocks.

Lol no they are not, Apple is doing very well.
On a side note I hope HTC does good as well:D

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

I am returning mine as well. My reasoning surounds the un-ability to turn off and remove the "blink feed". I use my phone for work and I don't want or need this crap. Guess I will have to go back to a nexus device.

Ha. Just disable the feeds and change your home screen. The phone more than makes up for a small thing like that.

No offense, but did you pay any attention at all to the device before it went on sale? It wasn't a mystery that you couldn't turn it off or remove it.

That's a remarkably sane, reasonable list of reasons. Are you in the right forum? :D
LOL True dat.
Two hours to 57%? No way

You must have been in a terribly weak signal area or something to have it drain that badly even under heavy use.
Very similar experience to my HTC Amaze. Even (especially) when at work or home, where Wi-Fi was used for 99% of the data (OP, check if that was your experience, pronounced battery loss while using wi-fi), and I had most syncing down to minimums -- 4 hours or more for things like mail, weather, etc.

Of course, Wi-Fi is a known issue among some Amaze owners. Even the March 2013 update doesn't seem to have fixed it.

That's just such an easy, cheap shot that many fall into temptation to make: "you don't like the phone that I love or am excited about, something's wrong with you, go pound sand." I've seen consistent trends with problems among 5-6 technical users of HTC phones (all different models) in our IT department. Just because phone is a neat device for the enthusiast does NOT make it a great business/work tool. Frankly, a businessman's phone has got to be many things, but reliable battery life is non-negotiable.

Ironically enough, deploying and using iPhones in the corporate environment is easy and reliable. Doing EAS "just works" for the most part. But I'll take my Nexus devices with a little bit of configuration effort, thankyouverymuch. They're superb, and BTW, both survive regular daytime business use without charging (screen on about 60% of the time).

N.B. I don't know what to say about the multitasking issue, I've been able to do that with my Amaze, and the 2013 One should have sufficient RAM. Maybe a problem with the application being used (i.e. "forms" ) .

Chromejob: It was on wifi to start but when I left to go do a job. I cut the wifi off. The battery was the least of my concerns, but something I noticed.

Others: The multitasking and the buttons not working were my biggest problems. I have pulled the One back out of the box and can replicate the multitasking and unresponsive button issue. The app I use is to fill out forms, but I regularly have to answer calls, text, and or emails. When I do this the app I use to fill out forms will restart and does not save the inputed information. This is not acceptable. The unresponsive button issue occurs when using several apps and going back and forth. This is more of annoyance than anything.

I would totally keep this phone if it was not for the multitasking. Any other issue is minor. The HTC One is a great phone, but just not doing the job I need for the moment.

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

We are keeping an eye on the One and the S4 as possible replacements for our iPhoney4 (although if Verizon never gets the One, it will automatically probably be the S4). But, I am currently using a Galaxy Note 2 as my personal device and would also recommend it to the OP. It has exceptional battery life, a stunning display, the best reception and call quality I've seen since my Blackberry days, and the S-Pen is far more useful than you might think. At least worth a look.

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

Well, a couple of things I suppose I can recommend is trying Lightning Launcher and lowering screen brightness. I know I've gained 1-2 hours of on-screen time on my old Nexus One (waiting for my T-mobile HTC One to come) versus the nova and go launchers and switching to Lightining, and I know it will replace a good part of sense and I believe (I think) the blinkfeed. I do intend to see how well it works once I get my own One here soon.

And that app is....? What's it called? Who makes it? Sounds like a problem with the app to me. Does it work okay on another phone, and if so, what version Android is it running on?

Re: HTC One not for me, not now anyway.

Guys after my first attempt with the HTC One. I decided to give the Galaxy S4 a go, that was until I started reading all of the reviews this morning. I decided to go to the AT&T store and handle both devices. I knew after a couple minutes the GS4 was out, just not for me. I then played with the HTC One again and tried to recreate the multitasking issues I had on the first one. But it wouldn't do it. I also noticed that the bezel on this one was flush with the speakers. Could it all have been a defect or a bad unit? I don't know, but I do know that right now I am sitting here playing with my new HTC One and have had zero issues that I had with the first unit. Maybe there was a few bad HTC Ones. My original was out of the very first batch as I had it prior to release. Now I am completely happy with my HTC One.

All well said comments. I'm thinking a large screen with a quad core processor is not really for you if battery life is your key. Like others said I think something like a razor or smaller screen would work. But when you think about the power in your hand and how thin and light it is, I get 12ish hours and I get the 14% message. I'm on it pretty much all day.
