Are you kidding? TouchWiz is intuitive and smooth?

Samsung's a lot lighter and smoother than Sense. Not sure about these to-be released software packages bundled with their skinned android, but as far as past experience goes I can safely say, after using and experiencing both, that Touchwiz is much lighter on the OS than Sense. Sense is rather slow and a resource hog. I like the appearance of Sense and I do like there's some cool features, and I do think Touchwiz has many gimmicky features, but I think if I had to choose, I'd go with Touchwiz over Sense.

Preinstalled software aside, the Samsung community is much larger so there's more custom ROM packages to choose from.

Which version of sense have you tested? I'm currently on sense 4.1 and it is no resource hog at all... There is no lag whatsoever. It used to be a hog with the 3+ version in the EVO3d era. Besides, judging from the reviews and videos, the Sense 5 will be noticeably lighter

Removeable battery and SD card may not be a deal breaker for the OP.

But I agree the decision will be made easier as from the 14th March.

Personally, I never found this to be useful in the first place. I don't install a ton of apps, but I do have a handful, some of which aren't exactly small, and I've still never come close to the limit of the internal storage space. In fact, any of my apps that default to installing on the SD card (pre 4.0), I immediately move back to internal.

So I just don't see the loss of this one feature as a justification to ditch SD cards altogether. They're still handy for moving large files between work/home, storing large collections of music or keeping several movies. Anyone with kids can vouch for how handy it is to be able to entertain their kids with a cartoon or three while traveling/eating/waiting/etc.

While I'm not married to either feature (SD card or removable battery), I'd still very much prefer to have both and I think Google is being very shortsighted in pushing for certain things to be, or not be, included, and the on again/off again features (apps to SD card) just isn't a good way to develop an OS. I love Google, but sometimes they appear a bit erratic.

npco543, just for the record, I agree with you. It's just that in looking at what Google is doing with Android, and the way Android phone manufacturers are making their handsets, I fear that both removable batteries and external SD cards are going the way of the dodo bird.

Well choice between sd card, removalable battery, gimmicky tweaks, tinny sounding speakers, amoled, TW all caged in cheap plastic = S4
Premium built device, sound boom, SLCD 3, front dual speakers, innovative camera, sense UI all wrapped in beautiful design aluminium = HTC One. Too easy HTC One of course. No matter what they put in plastic it's always going to look cheap.

Any choice is easy when you let your own bias get in the way of picking out the points for both sides.

To early to tell but going off what has been announced for the HTC one I will pass on it other than blink feed what new did HTC bring zoes, rf blaster I will take the features in the s3 over that especially if it has the premium suite. I can't deny the HTC one is a looker and without a doubt will be a great phone but their is no way you cab tell me a two button setup is ideal or even a good idea. I know the one will also feel better in hand due to the premium construction and sound better due to the speaker arrangement. But this is all preliminary I could swing the other way on Thur depending on what I see

The one has 4 cores' I don't see how smoothness could be a problem. And you can disable a lot of feature in sense.

My choice between the HTC one and Galaxy s4 is completely dependent on Sprint. The One for Sprint rolled through the FCC and doesn't support any of Sprint's future LTE bands that are launching in 2013. It would be crappy to pick a phone that I will have for 2 years and not get better coverage as Sprint's network finally gets better (800mhz LTE and clearwire's LTE plans). If the S4 has all the bands, then clearly I would go straight for the S4. Now if the S4 launches and it's only has the 1900 LTE band then things get a little dicey.

The first unknown is if The One or the S4 will be world phones.

if it came down to just S4 or the HTC one and the radios are the same. The S4 wins out for me I like the sd card slot and I actually like the plastic, easily replaceable.

HTC One for me. Samsung fails on hardware AND software badly.

Samsung has plastic that cracks, scratches, and dents so easily. TouchWiz lagged like crazy on the S3.

I personally will wait but if the leaks are true and its the same old ugly design (in my opinion) and built with fisher-price plastic material it will deff be the HTC One for me. I wish Samsung would go back to the GS2 GT-I9100 design. That was probably their best designed phone ever made.

Honestly I'm unimpressed with HTC's small screen. I owned the DNA and 5 inch is the best size for a phone. At the same time I'm unimpressed with the GS4 leaks in many ways where I may just decide to stick with my Nexus 4.

I currently have an iPhone 5 (yeah I know, boo hiss ) but also have an SGS2 and did have an SGS3 which I thought was a complete POS. The SD card and removable battery aren't a deal breaker for me, after all, I have an iPhone as my main phone. I shall get the 64Gb HTC One to replace my SGS2 when that contract expires in a few months.

Of course this is without looking at either the SGS4 or the HTC One so this decision may change dependent on hands-on experience.

I completely agree the SGS3 was the worst built material phone ever made. I originally got it and paid $650 for it and immediately returned it. I have owned 4 or 5 since but at a much cheaper price but never owned it for more then a couple weeks because I just couldn't stand the cheap feel of it.

From what I have seen online I really like the Sony Xperia Z line. It looks really well made.

I will not purchase a phone with a built in battery and no SD card slot !
Plus I really like Google Wallet and have been using it alot.

That is why I stayed so far away from Apple. (Besides it being a US company that makes nothing in the US)

for me its simple, if the gs4 is the same fisher-price plastic HTC is getting my money. If not Samsung probably is as I have to say the 5 inch DNA size is the best screen size I have used. Still feels like a phone but not big like the Note which feels more like a tablet. However I refuse to pay hundreds of dollars for something that feels like a toy I buy at toyrus for my daughter.
