Lol@ the ***** thinking plastic has anything to do with build quality

Did you miss the whole point eh?

Samsung likes to put these plastic rings around their phones and put fake chrome paint on them.

This is true. My galaxy SI and SII were looking awful after a year because of that plastic ring being worn-out. I'm also quite stunned how some people here are preaching how polycarbonate is so much more scratch resistant than aluminium. Well, that might be the case but if the durability shown in the video below is not enough then I think one shouldn't be using a high-end phone at all or use a case to be completely carefree of course.

I have a GS3 and I'm getting an HTC One, purely because of the camera. All my pictures I have taken over the past 5 years with my phone have been low light pictures. However instead of saying HTC One is better than GS4 or GS4 is better than HTC One, let me take another approach.

What could have HTC One done to win over more people?
1) Add an SDCard slot. I personally wouldn't use it because I'm an application guy, but some people get a warm and fuzzy from it.
2) Add removable battery. I haven't had to replaced my battery in a phone for over 20 years, however some people keep their phones for longer and it is another warm and fuzzy thing.

Just those two things would shutdown almost any argument for the GS4 over the HTC One. On the flip side, if the HTC One was just as sleek, but all polycarbonate would it really have mattered? I think the camera design is a toss up and probably a non issue if it was 8MP ultrapixel, but 4MP ultrapixel vs 13MP is based on if you are willing to sacrifice daylight photos for low light photos.

It took me forever to decide for the HTC One because of all the features I could use on the GS4, but the phones are very similar and you will be happy with whichever you get since it is personal preference. At this point everyone is just arguing about the color of their car disregarding the fact that both cars have similar processor, memory, similar OS, and will perform very similarly.

I just put Nova on and already liking it better than Sense. With Blinkfeed now gone, using Flipboard and MUCH prefer it.

Ok, I love Flipboard... although Feedly is better still for me. BUT the problem with both is you have to open them to see the news, where Blinkfeed is front and centre on your phone. The Flipboard Widget is basically crud. Blinkfeed needs some work, but one hopes HTC will update it and listen to people (I have heard they are actually fairly good at this?).

This is why Blinkfeed has the potential to be great - I can just pick the phone up and all my news is right there, looking moist and succulent. I will find out more when my phone arrives next week.

ETA: Regarding build quality - the materials used are important. For instance, would you still pay $10000 for a Rolex if it was made of plastic? No. Plastic, though, is not just plastic - there are thousands of different types. Using plastic offers certain advantages, like light weight, and that is why Samsung favour it. FWIW, I think the S4 looks really nice. I have an S3 and I am not bothered by the plastic build at all. BUT, the HTC just looks much nicer because it uses nicer materials. The iPhone 5 is the same - the build quality on the iPhone is almost like magic.

Everyone is always entitled to their opinion about which phone is best for them. I own the HTC One currently (have had it for about a week) and there's clearly an improvement on this device over previous iterations from HTC. A lot of it stems from Sense 5 as hardware is always being improved, but the phone is very impressive and there's really no wonder so many people are pleased by it. That being said, I've noticed a lot of disdain for the Galaxy S4 from people who either plan on getting the One or own it already. I can understand some of the criticism, but there's this dismissive attitude about the S4 that isn't justified.

HTC needs the One to be a massive hit. Financially, they're hurting and need this device to be successful in order to make up some ground. With that in mind, they took a big swing for the fences by making some drastic changes. Sense 5 is a lot different than Sense 4+. The design of the phone, while similiar to the DNA and 8X, is improved with the use of an all-aluminum body and stereo speakers on the front. The button layout is different. The camera is a huge departure from what's conventional in the smartphone world. In a word, this was a huge gamble for HTC. The reason they made it is pretty simple; they had very little success with any prior model to be able to build off of. When the wheel is broken, you fix it or reinvent it. HTC has done that in most areas with the One, but that's because they -needed- to. If you believe for one second that HTC, if the One ends up being a huge money maker, will change it drastically in 2014 than you're not familiar with this business at all. That leads me to the Galaxy S4.

The Galaxy S3 was, and is, a huge hit for Samsung. They went straight after Apple with their marketing campaign and managed to turn the S brand into a global powerhouse. Most reviews of the S3 were positive, it was well-received by the tech community at large, and it went on to be Android's biggest seller. So early on in their success, what I've gathered is that a large amount of you wanted something drastically different from Samsung. More "premium" build materials, less "gimmicky" features, etc. Samsung is not going to alienate their consumer base by making a huge change so early on in their run. Their answer to this was creating a device with a much better and bigger display, thinner and lighter profile, faster and more efficient CPU, larger battery, and even more features that some, not all, will use. They're establishing a brand, one in which is far more successful than anything HTC has ever done. The reviews have almost given the S4 the iPhone stigma, as if it's this separate entity from Android. It's the only phone outside of a Nexus that actually has the latest version of Android, something HTC wasn't able to do.

No, the S4 is not for everyone. Clearly there's a large portion of reviewers and consumers who actually like the One better, but dismissing the S4 as inferior is just a way to reaffirm your decision of buying the One and nothing more. I'm returning my One to get the S4 tomorrow not because I think the One is inferior, but because I feel the S4 will suit me better in everyday use. In the end, they're both Android and I'm glad I have the ability to choose between them both as together they cover a huge spectrum of use profiles.

I am happy to see that HTC is winning this battle. I came from iPhone and love this phone, I never thought I would say that I love an android phone but here I am. I tried the S3 at the AT&T store and omg I hated it so I couldn't imagine me liking the S4.

They're not wining anything. There's nothing to win. There's only success and failure. And I'm pretty sure there's a good chance they both will.

This is from me, on my EVO 3D.

HTC won't sell as many handsets as s4...they don't need to...Verizon is getting the s4 and not the HTC one...It's not for everyone and people tend to be loyal to their brands..I think the HTC one is the best phone for my needs. Never have I had to do so little to prepare a phone for use. I love the feel and speaker placement. I watch YouTube a lot and show friends videos and the sound its louder than my laptop. The screen is crisp, clean and gorgeous! I love BlinkFeed! I have access to all updates and can browse them without opening the individual apps. I dislike touchwiz and the look and feel of the s4...this doesn't mean the s4 is bad or a loser to the one out just means ad a consumer I can choose what I like..I like competition and having choices in life is better than only one choice.

This captures the attitude I was alluding to earlier. There's this need for a large portion of One users to feel justified in their purchase by making the S4 seem insignificant. That by choosing the One, they've chosen the "winner". Not that it isn't reversed by S4 owners, but honestly it seems a lot more prominent with people who own the One. Maybe it's not cool to like the S4 because it's successful. Who knows.

Maybe people rely on the S3's sales to do the same with the S4? They sold a lot, clearly they're the best?

People justify anything and everything. To say its more here is just the nature of timing. It will happen with the S4, the next Nexus, or any other device that requires choice amongst peers.

It's the Apple effect man..when you sell that many handsets as the s3 did people especially competitors are going to try to take you down..It's about money of course and when there is a great handset that comes out like the HTC one then folks that either suffered through the hard times or are loyal to HTC are going to shout out...without advertising and the ability to reach a target audience as big as Apple and Samsung other phone makers have to do things twice as well.
Here HTC has made huge improvements and innovations while the s4 made s few minor changes and didn't wow anyone..

Personally I love what HTC did for Google with the first true nexus phone...I see what Samsung gave us when they had their shot at making a nexus...I was very disappointed in the product from Samsung. The blueprint was there! The nexus showed everyone what users wanted and Samsung destroyed that image by their version..
In my opinion Samsung is basically a Mcdonalds while HTC is a corner mom and pop burger joint.

I have seen reviews on both side of the fence. Some reviews say the s4 is the greatest thing ever and others say that the HTC One is the greatest thing ever. Some reviews are just too biased. Personally, I like the One; however, what is pushing me away from it is the fact that I cannot remove the battery. For some, that is not an issue, because they are not power users, but for me, it is a big concern. With my S3, I switch batteries 2 to 3 times per day so that plays a huge factor in my decision of which phone I THINK is best.

What kind of "power user" doesn't have an electrical socket and multiple chargers within arms length at multiple points throughout the day? I'm a power user and I have about 5 extra wall chargers that I've accumulated over the last few years owning about 20 different phones. I also have at least 1 vehicle charger in each of my cars. That said, in the week that I've had the HTC One I haven't even had to throw it on the charger other than the car charger on my way home from work. That's enough to get me through the rest of the night. If I were doing some heavy gaming or something though I could easily throw it on the wall charger at my desk or the one in our toolroom. I would think a power user would know these things Unless you're like a park ranger or something.

OMG I can't wait for the GS4 too!!! But unlike you I don't think its a better phone, I just want it to come out already so you can go circle jerk over in that thread and not spend so much time trolling the One..........

Anyone buying either phone will want to justify their purchase. The problem here is that they are both great phones and both very different phones. The One does something I have wanted an Android phone to do from the time I left iPhone in 2010, which is combine gorgeous, well-crafted hardware with the versatile OS that is Android. Mission accomplished. The One also tries to do a lot of new things (front facing speakers, giant, light-capturing mega-pixels, zoeys) The S4 manages to take everything that made the Galaxy line a success and put it on steroids. Bigger better screen, better camera, even more mind-bending features (some useful some not). And the S4 is essentially one of the only android players to keep the one enticement that drove me to android to begin with (removable batteries and memory cards). I currently switched to ATT with the One, but only so I could compare both and get one or other. They are both amazing phones. They really are.

LOL People are still battling over this??? Yall are acting like yall want the GS4 to fail (which is won't)

I actually played with the HTC One...LOVE the speakers and the phone is fast! Great camera too
I personally do not like the new UI as good as it looked in pictures, wish it was more customizable
Also I don't see what was so good about the aluminum (It feels like any other phone I hold)
The HTC One is a good phone, but the GS4 is more the one for me (especially since I'm getting the Exynos version)

The only plus for the HTC One is the hardware....everything else is just like any other android smartphone you buy except faster

Also for those concerned with features, the S4 is made for a wide variety of people, not people in your circle
- If I had to suggest a phone to business people or travelers, I would recommend the S4 easily over the HTC One (Knox and S-Translate)
- For Audiophiles, I would say HTC One but GS4 is not a bad choice for it
- Camera heads, I would say S4...gives you more options rather that just a camera with few basic features; and the One does have better low light, but most pictures are taken in the day time
- Easier more experience for beginning smart phone users, I'd say the S4 for easy mode

Overall...both are great phones, but I think when it comes to sales, the GS4 will win

Either way it doesn't matter, both will sell, but at the end of the day...Samsung is tons richer than HTC looooool

Who said anything about failing....I think we all anticipate that there are lots off people who will buy the s4...
Did you even read the posts ahead of yours or did you just troll by and see a few comments and then jumped all over our thread to defend the previous s4.?

Watch the drop tests, every fall with One ends up with scratches and dents where as Galaxy S3/4 don't suffer from that. Pretty much just like N4 (which is glass), you can't carry One without the case. One nice drop is all it takes to make that AL look ugly.
