HTC One owns the S4 on pocketnow.com

Maybe people rely on the S3's sales to do the same with the S4? They sold a lot, clearly they're the best?

People justify anything and everything. To say its more here is just the nature of timing. It will happen with the S4, the next Nexus, or any other device that requires choice amongst peers.

I think there's a lot of people who bring up the sales of the S3 to highlight why the S4 will more than likely outsell the One by millions of units, but not necessarily to prove it's better. If that were the case, then the iPhone is better than both these phones and I think we can all agree that's not true. That being said, I do think the Galaxy line has become the new iPhone of Android because even when it succeeds, it fails. It fails because there's this unrealistic expectation every year to drastically change the phone when it would alienate the people who invested in it in the first place. Samsung introduced a boatload of new features, pulled an Apple and did it while making the phone smaller, and upgraded the hardware where it needed it.

The One comes on the heels of the DNA, which also has a 1080p SLCD3 screen (which was bigger), Beats Audio, the same curved unibody design (albeit without aluminum), and a more than capable 8MP camera. So the One brought the aluminum, chamfered edges, stereo speakers, Sense 5, and the Ultra Pixel camera while making the screen smaller and introducing a different button layout. If you want to get technical, outside of Sense 5 (which still runs the older version of Jelly Bean), they didn't really do that much, either. If you've got a DNA, all you're really missing right now is the speakers, the camera if you prefer the Ultra Pixel tech, a faster/more efficient processor, and the aluminum build. Whereas if you've got the S3, you're missing Android 4.2.2 with a plethora of new features, a bigger 1080p display, a 13MP camera, a bigger battery, a faster/more efficient processor, and a lighter/thinner design.

There's nothing wrong with liking the One better. A lot of people do, a lot of people don't. Just don't bash the S4 for these things when if you looked at it objectively, they're both amazing phones and one is going to suit you better than the other.

- For Audiophiles, I would say HTC One but GS4 is not a bad choice for it

Why, just because it has stereo speakers and a miniature amp? Sounds better in a pinch, but anyone into audio is going to use headphones.

Well because it has Beats drivers built into the phone. I would assume even with headphone, the beats drivers in the phone would make it good
I currently have a GS3, and alternatively using PowerAmp (the app) gives AMAZING sound alone. It has equalizers and tuners to give sound I would say could be just as good as Beats sound

Take away the aluminum vs. plastic argument and those guys sound like fan boys. Once cases are put on each phone then the strength of One and weakness of S4 are equalized. Some peeps like BoomSound and buttoned down/stripped Sense. Some peeps like bells and whistles and an endless array of settings. Personally, I'd rather have all the "gimmicks" and the ability to shut them off than not have them at all.

My friend that has ADD LIKES all of the gimmick features of the s4 he likes turning them all off and then turning them all on and then yells because in a not so bright room the eye tracking crap doesn't work dude gets crazy and screams more gimmicks

People are uber excited about the One speakers. I've heard them, and they are nice (still small/tinny sounding), but other than trying to show it off by showing freinds/fam video/sound clips,do people really plan on utilizing the speakers day to day? I know for me, I use my phone to talk to people via the earpiece, listen to music via headphones, and that' pretty much makes up 99% of my sound usage. So yes, some folks love to brag to people about "how cool" this new feature is, but at the end of the day, how often do you need to use tiny stereo speakers on a phone??

My GF and I like to sit out on the porch, have a cocktail or two, and listen to music and/or share youtube-like clips with each other. What can I say - it's fun! Currently, she has an iPhone 4, while I have a BlackBerry 9930. I want to have something nice to see and hear for the two of us as we take our turns playing.

The sound is much louder with headphones than any phone I've tested over the last several years. I'll try my brothers SIII, but I doubt it will match the One. The sound in headphones is awesome. I had bought a mini-amp for my EVO 3D. No need with the One.

Yeah thats a problem I had with my S3 is the volume level of the sound....thank goodness it was fixed in the S4
Do u use the front speakers a lot? Or mostly headphones?

Yup I LOVE Smart Stay...especially when im listening to music in my car and my phone recognizes my face and keeps the phone on. They are actually pretty useful to people like me I'd rather have them then not have them

Here is why HTC is better in my opinion and I am not knocking the galaxy because that was almost my choice is Tmobile hadn't of rolled out 4G LTE here in Vegas.

1. Blink Feed - The new processor and bigger RAM fully supports it with out lag
2. Efficient Battery Life - I have never in my life owned 2 batteries for one phone because I have a charger everywhere I go for my situation. I would probably forget to charge the 2nd battery
3. ZOE - makes me a video editor without trying and allows me to do more in my fun part of social life without putting in the extra effort
4. Sexy case - yes its damn sexy baby
5. Beats Audio - HTC is the only manufacturer that has Beats Audio and this owns Applesound or anything samsung can throw at it.
6. Front mounted speakers with boom sound - its awesome for sharing videos with friends because its loud and clear and also helps with calls.
7. 25 Free GB of Drop box - No need for expandable storage with drop box and google music live streams. I have never gone over a total of 15GB of used memory on a phone because I use features like this which also automatically back up my phone contacts, music, pictures, videos, files, etc. You can also share some of your stuff with others by sending them invites to your folders you want shared.
8. Screen - Colors are more lively than Samsungs screen (matter of opinion here but that's mine) and its near the same size of the S4
9. Camera - Shots are significantly better in low light and nearly as good in regular lighting.
10. I hate apple

My thing with Samsung is things that I am not really sure are going to benefit me like knowing what the temperature is around me..... I can't control that so why do I care? Touch wiz..... oooh big WOW, I dont have to touch the screen...... Eye Recognition... nice but its first stage and premature and once it becomes awesome and other developers take advantage then maybe I will think about a samsung...... Language translator......I dont even have a damn passport and I dont live in Los Angeles...... 5 inch screen.... pretty nice...... plastic case.... pass....

They sound bitter and now and more like the iphone crowd e.g. "extra features are gimmicks" "who cares about removable batteries and sd cards?" and "by this phone is so much better looking"

I personally buy phones based on capabilities and that's where the one falls short.

Why couldn't they come with new features besides blink feed?

Do something to stand out.

If the one had Samsung's features, removable battery (as all phones should have), it would be the best phone ever.

People always told this lie that "without a removable battery you can get a larger capacity battery inside the phone so it results in better battery life" but then look what happened - Samsung proved it to be a lie, they have the bigger battery AND is removable. Tell another lie HTC!

Funny how phones have been made out of plastic for YEARS but it's a crime when Samsung does it...

Whenever you're on top of your game it's always someone less fortunate that has a major problem with it

I'm sorry to see that you've been so hurt by all this that you can't leave HTC One forums alone. :) All those things you mention above are a reflection of your very personal opinion, and that's not what most experts in the industry are saying. Although S4 offers Plenty more software feature (software) packed in a crappy looking casing. Reviews have been saying that even with overclocked processor, android 4.2.2, S4 performance has lag due to Fat and Ugly touchwiz. Samsung has completely hidden look and feel of Android, and made it look like Samsung OS, and some articles are reporting that Samsung will build its customer base and eventually ditch android that is hidden deep down under touchwiz so people wont.
All the "extra" features of S4 will be ported will be ported to other devices in form of app (just like last year, I was using smart stay etc) on my EVO LTE (One x). So doing that on HTC One will bring extra features on a sexy device. :P

Why would I be hurt?

It's a bunch of people that hate Samsung despite the fact that they created the better phone and with more features.

Still a slower cpu, smaller battery, fewer features, non removable battery, no expansion.

Actually many of their staff used the s3 as their daily driver

The One has a car dock made for it by HTC and goes into a car mode UI automatically when docked in it ;)

(Now that's a feature that's actually not gimmicky)

Furthermore you don't need smart stay on your S4 for driving. There's a few really good car mode apps that have a car dock style UI and a stay on option. I use Carhome Ultra on my n4 and it's awesome.

I am a big fan of the HTC One as it is one of the best phones I have ever tested. My only wish is that they made the battery removable. I know this is a small concern but it was the only thing I would wish they changed.

For those that keep pointing out "performance" issues on the S4, do your homework. If there's any issue at all, and honestly its ridiculous to discuss as its so minuscule, its due to the animations in Touchwiz. That's not performance related. The S4 still beats the One in most synthetic benchmark tests (and certainly with the Exynos version) and feels no different as far as real world speed. If it makes you feel better to believe that, though, go right ahead.

Thanks for clearing that up I will run out and buy the S4 because it is the greatest smartphone ever made it has no flaws super Amlod screens are so bright and clear I can see it perfectly fine in bright sunlight, I can even drop it off the roof of my house and it will stay in one piece nothing compares to touchwiz with all it's flawless features,I am somewhat getting tired of reading about tests done on either phone that proves nothing to real world use all phones have flaws and Samsung is not exempt from this but hell they sold 50 billion S3 so they have to be better

I don't remember saying any of that. Just clearing up a fallacy created to make people feel better about choosing the One. If the One is the best for you, you'll get zero arguments from me.

Yeah, because it requires an engineering background to see that although the materials/quality are different, the design of the One is inspired by the DNA/Butterfly/8X.
