HTC One Rooting?

Hi.

I understand it's early on, and the tinkerers haven't had nearly enough time to do their thing, but some conjecture might be useful. Just a few questions:

-Is it expected that rooting the HTC One will be fairly accessible? How locked-down are HTC phones. I'm casually familiar with the linux command terminal- would you anticipate this being within my abilities?
-I understand the Ultrapixel and speakers rely upon proprietary HTC drivers. Is there any way to make them work as well on another ROM? Is there potential that some method will be found? I know that previous HTC phones could regain sound quality by installing beats audio- but the Ultrapixel is new territory.

Thanks.

The phone is rooted and there are custom roms out there for quite a while. I didn't notice anyone saying that they lost functionality. There were a few apps lost early like flashlight and calculator, but I think current roms have them back.

ORLY? Did someone provide any write up on this or video?

Well so far I have unlocked it and also got a recovery mod on my AT&T unit. But, files like SuperSU .99 is being a real freaking pain in the *** to work, keeps wanting to update the binaries. This is after I installed the thing via recovery.

I got my phone unlocked really easy, but had a terrible time getting the custom recovery to copy to the phone. After several hours, I changed the USB cable and the USB port I was using and it worked fine. :)

Good to know especially the Mac solution. As far as I know unlocked bootloader is the only reason to wait on the Developer phone.

Definitely want to try this when i get home.
Quick quesiton, have you tried it yourself?

Yes my One is rooted.. Just follow those steps n replace everything with the HTC One

Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

Now that i'm rooted... what are the opinions on best rom to flash? Should i stick with stock HTC, or go for Trickdroid or Androidrevolution?
Just wondering what peoples experiences are so far.

What I would do is stick with stock for a couple of days and learn what you do and don't like, then see what roms improve what you don't like. It's hard to know what to switch to if you are doing it for no reason.

Say I want to keep Sense 5 because I like it but want to unlock the SIM, discard the AT&T bloatware, and enable tethering. Can I do that with just unlocking the bootloader and root or will I need to install a full custom ROM?

Unlocking the SIM is totally separate. That's an entirely different thing that requires either your carrier to unlock or pay for a 3rd party service that will provide a code for you. For the other things, yes unlocking and rooting is sufficient.
