HTC One X vs iPhone 4S display

For those of you debating the technology of the displays and saying the technology is what matters, stop. Throwing around tech terms and catch phrases means nothing, as was said above, a cheap display is a cheap display no matter the tech.

Results and performance are what matters. It doesn't matter what path they choose to get there if it looks good it looks good end of story. If you guys can see 9dpi difference more power to you but I doubt the vast majority of people could tell.

Some people need to stop reading reviews and picking up catch phrases and actually pick the phones up, do a comparison, and state in their own opinion what is better.

Are you guys high?

It is virtually impossible to spot a difference of 9ppi on a display let alone one that has more than 250 ppi...

HTC One X clearly has the better screen. More color and not as bland as the 4s screen.

More colorful does not equal a better screen. Or are you trying to tell me the Galaxy Nexus' screen is better than the One X's?

If you can really see the difference 9 pixels per inch makes, more power to ya. (Somehow I doubt it's visible.)

You notice it in text, mainly. The iPhone's is crisper. The One X is far, far better than the Nexus I have now, but still not quite to iPhone level.

The iPhone has a higher ppi and is ips. Don't get me wrong, the One X has a very, very good display, but the iPhones is still better.

Really? You notice a 5.2% difference in pixel density? It's possible, but somehow, the term placebo comes to mind.

As for IPS, the One X is IPS as well. For which is technologically better, the iPhone is slightly higher density, but the One X is larger/higher def. Again, not seeing how it's not at least the technological equal. I'm not being a fanboy. I own an iPhone along with android as an app developer. It's a great display, but I always felt like it was turned into holy writ that it was better, even when it no longer holds the crown.

Uh huh. Again, it's possible, but I feel like the odds are so far out there, other explanations (different fonts, placebo effects, etc) rather than pixel density.

I think the one X is the best damn thing to android to date. Does it have a better display than the retna? It is close, but doesn't grab a cuban yet.

Where has it been stated that the display is IPS?

Anandtech dug in and found that a Sony-made panel was in theres. Of course they are probably sourced from more than one company, but it's not IPS. Regular LCD of some type.

Early research suggests that SLCD2 is based on SPVA architecture, which is considered a "mid-grade" display tech.

I reached out to HTC to get more details but have yet to hear back. I'm interested to know what they've done to make this display so awesome.

They're assuming its IPS since it exhibits characteristics of IPS displays like the iPhone. HTC doesn't really say though.

Interesting, I think it is a good display, and about time android had a good one. We all know how bad it has been for a long time since the OG days. Does it trump the retina? Not even, and it is sad when a android device gets par with the retina that people think it is time to light a Cuban in victory. Android better get way better fast, the next Jesus phone is coming.

I am currently on iPhone 4, same screen as 4S, and the One X screen is better in my opinion. Both are very sharp and clear, but the One X is bigger. Plus everything seems as if it is floating on the glass, which also looks better. I saw nothing inferior whatsoever when I played with the One X at AT&T recently.

Here is an excellent video showing the screens of One X, Xperia S, Galaxy Nexus and iPhone 4S all at the same time for comparison. Just skip to 10:47 and you don't need to understand Chinese. The video will show you viewing angle, color saturation, pure black image, pure white image, text...etc.

Everybody just go watch it and stop arguing from spec numbers. They all have their strength and weakness. Just choose the one you like most.

For those saying stop talking about the technical details, the discussion about the technical details is not to determine whether or not the display is good-it's to determine how (technically) they managed to make such a good display (aka I think most people would agree that it is a very good display, one of the best). I think the ppi difference with the iPhone is a complete wash; I would agree that the slight difference isn't a practical difference at all. But it is worth knowing the technical facts of the display to understand why it is good. Is it IPS? If so, does that explain the great colors? And what type of IPS is it specifically (so we could know if they could improve on this and come out with even better displays in the future)? Stuff like that is why people discuss display technology.

The HOX screen is the best on any current phone, - this includes the apple product.
