HTC One's Camera Greatly Improved With Software Update

I've been having a hard time choosing between the One and the GS4. Is the camera going to disappoint if I go with the One? Its seems people are chomping at the bit for this update to improve the camera.

No, you wouldn't be disappointed, as is (even if never updated), it's a great camera. If you take mostly daylight pictures and particularly landscape shots you might like the S4 camera more for the detail. For portrait shots, closer objects, indoors or lower light the One is the best camera I've had on a phone. People just like updates (myself included) for the potential of what could be. It's newer, so has to be better, right?

Looking through my current iPhone gallery I see that I do take more pictures in well-lit environments. I would say at least 60-70%.

It's quite simple really, are you wanting to print off a lot of your images at sizes greater than A4? If you are, the GS4 is what you need. If that isn't the case, the One will be the one to go for, because it has built in OIS (that's Optical Image Stabilisation) in the lens system (only the One and the Lumia 920 currently have this feature), it has a greater focal length than the S4 camera, albeit small (f2 on the HTC one to f2.2 on the S4), and is capable of shooting an incredible 8fps, which is pretty amazing. It is also able to shoot low-light images at lower ISO and faster shutter speeds, so you get better images in low light conditions than the S4.

So, you get less shaky images and video, better low-light images, more shooting styles possible with the HTC One. You also get Zoe's and Highlights which are really cool. Also, check out the slow speed video mode, which is neat.

You do know that just about every picture taken indoors would be considered low light. Not all but most.

Robsawalker you bring up a good point. I won't need to print these out. If my photos ever leave my phone they are only sent to other people's phones or fb. I should just stop stressing about the camera.

You can stress about the camera, but you don't really have to be too bothered about the 4MP resolution. It might not matter to you much.
