HTC Sensation and iPhone

My gf and I are moving to the US soon and I am doing homework on cell phones. She wants an iPhone for sure and I will most likely be getting an HTC Sensation.

From what I've learned, it'd be best to get a family plan to save on the monthly bill. How should I go about joining up on the same carrier? Purchasing the phone for retail price is not a big problem.

I'm also concerned about any downsides of bringing a phone to another carrier. Will I be able to use 3g data speeds, etc.?

Finally, what's the general opinion on AT&T and T-Mobile? I will be in the Bay Area, most likely around the vicinity of San Jose.

ATT has awful customer service and will bend you over. I have been T-Mobile loyal for a long time, back when it was known as Voicestream. I love em and hate to think that soon, they might no longer be around. ATT will ruin what T-Mobile has become. I dont know much about family plans so I can help there. Someone else can chime in, otherwise check the website. If you have a Sensation and end up on T-Mobile, it wont work on ATT 3G if you end up taking it to them later and the same goes with the iPhone. If you leave ATT it wont work on T-Mobile's 3G, let alone at all since they cant be unlocked anyway.

If your girlfriend must have an iPhone and you an Android, neither of you will be happy with either carrier right now because you won't have full data speeds because iPhone does not work on TMO's 3G bands and the Sensation doesn't work on AT&T's 3G bands. So one of you would have to make a sacrifice. In the interest of keeping your girlfriend happy you may want to join AT&T and you pick up one of their Android offerings. Especially with devices rolling out all the time you'd have plenty to choose. Or go to VZW and get one of their Androids. Either way, I think you may want to make the GF happy, so she can make you happy later

Am I wrong assuming 2 seperate single line plans would cost more per month than 1 family plan? This cost would not include price of the phone itself, just monthly billing.

If so, I guess the best option would be to just go with Verizon and put up with the bloatware? I had my eye on Incredible 2 before I found out about the Sensation.

The sensation went through the FCC again with AT&T broadcasting bands so you may reach an agreement. There's no word on if it'll come to AT&T but there's a good chance it will. If not, it'll be unlocked and you'll be able to buy it.

I saw the news about it going through the FCC again as well. The article I read said this version won't support 4G, though.

The sibling HTC phone to the Sensation on Verizon is called the Thunderbolt. Have you checked that one out?

Well yes but he's talking about the sensations relative, which is a bit more so the tbolt then the inspire. But the thunderbolt and inspire are like sisters yes.

The Thunderbolt isn't nearly the same as the Sensation. The Sensation has gingerbread, Sense 3.0, dual core, and a much better battery life.

You can order a European HTC Sensation & use it with AT&T , since from what i reed the AT&T have INT' GSM frequencies , you gotta be sure though , since an off-contract Sensation in the UK costs 500 pounds

AT&T seems to have better reception in the South Bay, but T-Mobile works much better in San Francisco and definitely beats AT&T in the customer service department.

Why not get the Infuse on at&t or go to Verizon and get the Droid Charge or Thunderbolt? That way your girlfriend can still get her iPhone and you can get an awesome Android device.
