Hello all,

I have been pondering this, and I am wondering what you all think.

HTC Sense adds certain functionality and several UI elements that Android lacks. Three questions:

1) What do you want to see in Android 3.0 Gingerbread? What do you want Google to really focus on?
2) What do think will happen to HTC's Sense (and perhaps other skins like TouchWiz) with the introduction of Gingerbread?
3) Seeing that the main change will be a UI overhaul, what do you believe Google will focus on most when changing their Android OS in Gingerbread?

Honestly, the biggest thing for me that I believe they should focus on is a COMPLETE 100% overhaul of the app launcher. I hate looking only through alphabetical order. I forget the names of the apps I download sometimes, and it becomes a nuisance to try to remember.

What do you think?

i do agree that there are UI elements in Sense that vanilla Android doesnt have, but i disagree with the part about lacking functionality. i cant think of anything that Sense can DO that vanilla cant, as long as you know what apps to use.

Don't even have froyo and you are thinking about ginger?

Froyo is many flavors has been out for some time for the Evo...

Personally I like Vanilla... Its Simple and Clean...

The UI Def needs a revamp ASAP... It in many ways has alot more Function then Sense in my opinion...

Sense just slows things down soooooo much compared to Vanilla...

when changes are implemented i just wonder how and what will change... visually i understand but functionality better not be compromised

yap I prefery the vanilla over Sense any time, I've been using CM6 since day one and could be happier having froyo and no sense at all.

Google has a long history of lousy interfaces. In fact, I can't think of anything they offer that really has a good interface. Most are what I would classify as "acceptable," at best. So I'm far from optimistic about Gingerbread.

Now then, Google hired someone who appears to understand interfaces from Palm. If they let him hire the right mix of UX people, and give him time to do it right, we may see something really good. But it's going to take a long time.

Wow, so it seems most of you don't really like Sense all that much. I think sense adds a lot of nice functions that vanilla lacks. In the contacts section its great. It looks much better in all areas, which is important I think, and it has the 7 home screens, which is even more important because I seriously hate the launcher.

I mean, just a bunch of apps bundled in one place in alpha order.... horrible!

You know, I really agree with you. I have never thought about it before this, but Google really doesn't have anything fantastic at all. It's all just acceptable. You are so right.

I hope Matias Duarte will be able to fix the UI elements in Android. He did wonders with webOS, i really like that operating system. It's fantastic. Even better than iPhone's.

Sense is okay I just like the nerdy look of stock. I think the android interface is nice but some of the menus are a bit tricky to navigate through. I like it more than the iOS though.

I think ios is better overall. More stable and less force closing. I can't wait for android to step up the game.

iOS is certainly more stable, but I hate how limited the options are. You pretty much accept the stock launcher, and that's it. Android, with Sense or 3rd party home / launchers, gives you much more power to organize things the way you want to.

I want to make my phone fit the way I work and think. iOS makes me change the way I work and think to fit the way Father Steve wants me to.

While I certainly appreciate the simplicity and less lag of vanilla android, the one thing sense adds that I certainly hope gingerbread adds in some form is the deep integration in the contacts list. Seeing facebook/twitter updates, browsing their galleries-- all from the contacts list. Considering the genius behind webOS (I had a pre pre-EVO) is with google now, I'm hoping for good things.
