HTC Software update available incl. Menu button fix

Might be a "data roaming" warning sound; mine has been doing that since the update. Look at Settings -> Mobile network, second item from the top. If "Data roaming sound" is checked, deselect it and see if your odd sound goes away.

That was a good idea, but I unchecked it and voila, same sound. :-(

Weird. Maybe someone else will have a specific answer; that's the only thing-state I've had (so far) cause unusual sounds with no obvious notification.

Another place to check - Settings -> Accounts & sync. Any apps or services listed therein - Google, Weather etc. - will be running periodic "stuff" and might be hitting some kind of problem. You could try toggling synchronization one by one, wait a while, see if the noise stops.

Might try putting it in airplane mode for a half hour or so, see if whatever's causing the sound is paying attention. If yes it should go to sleep and you won't hear it. Most likely that won't ID a culprit but it could tell you something either way.

A fairly tedious path would be to start uninstalling 3rd party apps one at a time, see if the noise quits. Even that might not help, if it's one of the built-in things. All else fails you might try visiting a Sprint corp store, ideally one with a tech onsite.

Hope you find it. :P

I had the same problem and figured it out today. I was on my computer resetting a password and when I was sent the reset email to my yahoo account it made the chime. I went into the yahoo mail app and it was the default alert sound. This has been maddening me from the time I got this phone I actually sat at the sprint store for about 45 minutes to see if it would chime. That fixed it for me I don't know if you hearing the same alert but you can go into settings and hear the default alert and see if that is the sound. Finally peace!

Might be a signal tone or something similar, I would look in your sound settings for anything new that might be checked

I manually checked for a HTC Update on my phone, and the personalized ringer update is now available! Go get it!

Guys, dont know whats going on, but my phone says no updates are available, and still on sense 4.0.
I am just rooted with zedomax.
Anyone overcome such an issue, help please.

I found the source of the annoying new chime.
This is a cross post from another thread:

But, for anyone else who may have had an issue. I don't think it was the software update that CUT my battery life in half from prior (2-3 days)

From another thread, someone pointed me to sync services, which I had historically setup but hadn't done anything with in a while. and I didn't THINK anything would be setup without my confirmation, but it appears it was.

There were two new items in there, Skype and Tango which had sync services setup and running in some fashion. I disabled BOTH of them (so, sorry I can't tell you which was the culprit)

Now, I'm back to where I was before, phone is currently at 62% and 23:25 hours. (I did about 45 minutes of calls yesterday and a 1 hour gotomeeting session, plus about 20-30 emails)

Android OS now shows 9%, so something was running.

And, the stupid "do- dohh" sounds that had appeared is gone. Hasn't sounded in 24 hours at least. I THINK what happened was I USED skype to make a call. It was not running in the background, but I THINK that the sync services may have been checking for online status updates, or doing that sort of stuff the skype may do in the background. This could also be true of Tango, which as well was NOT running, but had somehow enabled sync services and was probably doing something similar.

So, if any of you have either of these two things running in sync services you might try disabling them, that did it for me.
