HTC U11 stuck in headphone mode

Have been googling it for days now with no luck. My wife's HTC U11 went into the headphone mode with no particular reason. It was laying on the table, she got a call and then this happened. Headphones were never plugged in even. I had to install some software so speaker and microphone would work again. But she has to turn the loudspeaker mode off each time she gets a call. That's roughly 2 million times a day. Phone is 2 weeks old and was bought on Amazon, so it's a bit of the hassle to send it back. Did anyone have the same issue?

So, let's clarify - how do you know the phone is in headphone mode? Because you can't hear anything from the earpiece?

The top bar shows the headphone icon. Also speaker and microphone don't work during calls. The only solution I found is installing some 3rd party software allowing to turn speaker and microphone on when nonexisting headphones are plugged in. Which is not an ideal solution considering she had to switch the loudspeaker mode off after answering the phone. There are other "bonuses" like problems with charging - it thinks that headphones are removed when you plug the charger in...and charging process starts in a few minutes only. Was hoping Android 8 fixes it, but still haven't received it.

It's bad, period. It's not a software hiccup. It's seems pretty obvious it's an issue with the USB-C port. Send it back. You said you bought it on Amazon so it's a bit of a hassle, but you might be the first person I've ever heard say that.

Before you initiate sending the phone back, have you tried doing a factory reset (after backing up your important data, of course)?

It happened when the phone was just lying there. Was never dropped and went into these mode between 2 calls. No charging in between. I also thought that this is a hardware issue...but can't imagine how this can happen without any mechanical damage. Oh well, maybe I am the first one with that issue:)

Do you use any Bluetooth devices such as headphones or earbuds?

Twice in my life I went to answer a call and could not hear anything from the phone's speaker. Both times it turned out that I had left my Bluetooth earbuds powered on (don't normally do this) and they were within range of the phone, so the phone was directing all audio output (and input) to the earbuds.

Yeah, I'm with you: I've never considered Amazon's return process to be a hassle (at least, relatively speaking). It's about as easy as it can be. In fact, I'd process a replacement, which is just as easy: Amazon will send a replacement and you still have 30 days to send in the original.

OK guys, factory reset did nothing too. Only one thing left - to send it back to Amazon. Thanks everyone for trying to help.

I'm so sorry it has come to this! Please keep us posted. Hopefully the return process goes smoothly for you.
