HTC Uncapps FPS??

The reason there is a 30fps cap is because the HDMI port requires a constant frame rate so your TV doesn't freak out. The Evo can do a solid 30fps without a hitch, but anyone who's rooted and busted the cap knows that it hovers in the high 50's. All they needed to do was make it drop to 30fps when the HDMI cable was plugged in, but I guess they either didn't have time or didn't think it was important. The new OTA will presumably do just this.

Just a newbie question, not new to phones but to tech anything....What exactly does the cap slow down? (ducks and hides)

If it's truly a "cap" as they say, theoretically, if an uncapped version of the phone can run the majority of things at ~50 fps, then with the cap it should hover right around 30 fps, which would still be smooth (no stuttering, etc.), just not as smooth as ~50 fps.

However, I have no idea how the cap is programmed, and how well/poorly apps/the UI are coded, so who knows how a stock phone without a cap will perform compared to a rooted phone with a custom ROM and kernel.

For some reason i do not believe any of this, however if i'm wrong- then i'll be damned! I'd sure like to see it happen.

I will be interested to see what GPS reboot entails, as I have been having rebooting issues with my EVO when using GPS.

Thanks for the link, looks like fps upcap isn't included

This update fixes:
- Calendar event edit issues
- Multiple Gmail account sync

If they were going to remove the cap, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't announce it as it isn't technically "fixing" anything.

But I would think they would say something ambiguous like "Improvements to GUI performance."

Guess this thread can be merged or closed since Phil now confirmed the FPS getting uncapped!
