Too bad it's not a good deal.
For the same price you can get the Optimus Slider (faster processor and keyboard), and when on sale you can get an OV, which is an almost identical to the HTC for half the cost. The only thing the Wildfire has over the OV is GB (easily fixed), Sense (easily fixed), and a better camera.
I'm glad they added it, I just think at that price point it's a foolish phone to purchase.

The only thing I like is it's htc. I'd like it more if it had more ram and if I knew what the processor could be overclocked too
Looks like an older processor than the V (based on number) Qualcomm MSM7227 SoC (vs. a 76XX)

I think they got a lot of request for HTC phones.
Sadly, this wasn't quite what people wanted I think, and if it goes bad, I doubt Virgin will be quick to do it again. Then again, HTC's name will probably make it it sell regardless.
Give me something like a one, maybe 2 year old upper end HTC or similar phone at a decent price, and I'm on it. Triumph to me seems like garbage, the OB is decent, and will work, but I don't see why we can't get something better. It may not sell in massive quantities, but think of the press it would bring and many would buy it. How about an Iphone 3g on Virgin for $350 maybe $400, I would be tempted and I'm not even a huge fan of the Iphone. Imagine how that would set alight the press and pre-pay market. The publicity alone woudl make it worthwhile.
Again, I'm not B*tching at VM for offering this phone, I'm glad they are bringing more options, but anyone who chooses that over an OV, Slider or the OB after it comes out is a blithering idiot. It's a capable Android, its just underpowered and overpriced for what it is.

Maybe in a couple years they'll offer the iPhone 4 lol (since that's the only one that has a CDMA version right now)

Ditto.
Nothing against the HTC Wildfire, but the OB would have been nice.
Of course, as I have whined before, I really wish Virgin Mobile would go for the LG Optimus Note; unfortunately, we will be getting the LG Optimus Slider as a choice instead, so I doubt that they will also introduce the Note, at least, not any time soon. After all, the Note isn't available anywhere in the USA as of yet and we all know that VM is never an early adopter! LG Optimus Note: It's the Optimus Black, but with a QWERTY keyboard

I just read that. And the only useful info i got was, vm is throttling to 2.5gb
And postponing the throttle to 2012!
Nothing real snazzy that our ov's cant do. Just really a wow factor for some people owning a htc phone w/o a plan. Amd it comes in white and silver....

How is sense easily fixed? I would love a phone with sense but the only sense ROM we have is months old, and themes don't really imitate it well... I would love sense on the V, even if it was froyo...
Looks like there's now CyanogenMod on the Triumph. That's gonna be my next phone then. Not to sound off topic with the Triumph, but is anyone else sick of these 3.5" MDPI screens?
I'm very tired of not being able to see what i'm typing because the keyboard takes up half the screen (well at least with the Facebook app). As well as advertisements covering half the screen too (okay, maybe i'm exaggerating).
I just think the screen resolution is too low. It would have been nice if at least one of these new phones would of had HDPI support.

No offense but Sense is terrible. Check out the latest security problem at android police. An app with internet permission can get gps, texts, esn, ip adresses etc.
It is so bloated it it isn't even funny and has some compatibility issues too.

Yeah we all think sense is cool and amazing. It's a complete redesign of the Android UI. I honestly think the widgets are great. We all try to to imitate that animated flip clock and the themes.
But realistically Sense ROMs are slower than AOSP ROMs. Sense also takes up a lot of internal storage. What's the average size in MB of the Sense UI? If I remember right it's about 90 megabytes. Think of how many apps could be installed with that much extra space.
When Sense is new and you try it for the first time it's really interesting, then after a while it starts to become more and more boring (just like the iPhone)
Basically Cyanogenmod is better than Sense.
Really I don't think either of these phones with their price are worth it with just another 600mhz processor, even with flash lite.
There's no reason why VM can't put out a few more phones with a 1GHz processor.

EDIT : I just realized I was looking at guides for the HTC Wildfire. Now I see that the S doesn't even have official CM support! Does this phone have anything with official stable dev support?

There are a few ways to get the look and basic function of it on a device.
Sure, you miss the backend, but how often are you working with that? Besides that, you also miss out on the wonderful security issue they recently found.
Regardless, we have lots of alternatives, and just because a rom is older, doesn't mean it doesn't work well. Take the rom, update the apps, install it and flash on a more up-to-date kernel and it's done. It's not magic.
I still say it's way overpriced and a foolish investment over the OV or Slider.
