Hi guys! I was wondering if it is possible to shoot a video in monochrome mode. It would be awesome, and with more quality given that the sensor is bigger than the color one. But....i haven't found anything about it.

Greetings from ARG!

I have looked around for the same and also looked around at XDA for it. But it doesn't seem to exist a working solution for it. I know the Essential phone has it, so it should be possible to do. Monochrome video and monochrome RAW is top of my whish list

The sensor is not really bigger, basically the same size. The RGB sensor is 1/2.8” and the monochrome sensor is 1/2.9”. The monochrome has more pixels but they are ca 20% smaller than the pixels on the RGB sensor.

Yes, my bad. I know that the sensors are almost the same size, but the quality, sharpness, and contrast that you have on a monochrome photo would make an awesome video too. So.... Do you know if there's a chance to do it?

You can check FiLMic Pro for the video. It’s not free whoever they have a free app that will tell you which features of FiLMic Pro the phone supports.
I’m haven’t been in the Android world for a while now. I know FiLMic Pro allows me to change cameras on my phone.
Also, regarding photos, I would suggest you check out some of the available 3rd party camera apps that are available. I know some allow you to switch cameras and also will make photos in raw. I don’t have any suggestions on which ones. I simply don’t remember much about the Android camera apps.
I still have a Mate 9 but have not used it in a long time. Maybe I’ll knock the dust off of it, fire it up and see if I can remember anything.
BTW, FiLMic Pro is one of the best, if not the best, video apps around. You have full manual control, resolution, frame rate, bit rate, aspect ratio (even 2.39 which is true cinematic ratio and coupled with 24 FPS produces some great cin video) and it even allows you to film in flat gamma and log gamma if you want. That’s so great for color grading in post processing adjusting yourself or using LUTs. Again this all depends on which feature the phone has.

Forgot to mention regarding FiLMic Pro manual controls. Also you have full control of ISO and shutter speed. You can lock focus and exposure. Also you can preset push and pull focus points and adjust the speed with which the camera will push and pull to those points.
