huawei p20 pro lost or drained 15% battery while turned off for 8 hours

charge to 93% before turning off at night.
around 8 hours later, turned it on and it showed only 78% left.

Do i have a bad battery in my Huawei P20 Pro?

anybody have similar problem?

tried clearing cache (power down. power on while pressing up button, select clear cache and then reboot). no improvement.

When you say you turned it off, you mean you completely powered it down? If so, that's definitely a battery issue. If you just turned the screen off but the phone itself was still on, it may be a weak battery, or it may be an app going rogue.

No, when you unplugged the charger, the battery was probably at about 91% charge. (The phone is measuring the charger voltage when the charger is plugged in, not the battery voltage.) A drop of 3% could be 1% when you were turning it off and 1% between the time you turned it on and the time you could read the state of charge. That 1% difference? I wouldn't worry about it. It's not a bad battery, it's a normal battery.

I'm sticking with the battery being the culprit for now. Yes, you will see a decrease due to shutdown and startup procedures, but not 15% on a healthy battery.

How old is the battery?

What are your general charging habits? I.e. When do you plug and unplug it?

my P20 pro is only 1 month old.

sometime i charge it overnight (using the charger came with the phone).
Sometime i top up (before it is below 20%) for couple of hours using a charger with 2.1A rating on it.

by the way, huawei support reply with some sort of templated response for battery draining problem during normal operation, not during 'OFF' time.
It refers to not allowing application running in the background also suggest factory reset.

last night even worse....from 91% (unplug at 93%. wait for a while before switching off. turn on 9 hours later. it is showing 72%

Just wonder if any other P20 pro got the same issue. probably lots of people keep in plugged in at night....

Doesn't Huawei allow you to set an alarm, turn the phone off, then still have the alarm sound without booting up? I know one of the off brands does that, which isn't standard for Android. If it is Huawei I'm thinking of, are you using that feature? Normally I wouldn't think this, but if the phone is not truly off (otherwise the alarm clock wouldn't be able to sound), then it is possible something is going rogue. It may happen even without setting an alarm. That may actually be something a factory reset could fix.

When you check it before booting up, does the phone seem warm at all?

Not allow apps to run in the background? Thought this was fine on android?

i dont know about the alarm feature and have not set alarm.

In the morning, before i turned in on, it is no warm at all.

I got same issue after 4 years usage(lost 20% while off 8 hours). but I don't think it is battery issue because I have changed two new battery..
looks like the power circuit has problem, keep draining while power off.

Welcome to Android Central! You may be right, but also keep in mind that your replacement batteries might also have been sitting around on a shelf for 4 years, which means they may have deteriorated the same amount over this time.
