Hi there,

As i had my Huawei P40 lite in my pocket, it accidentally deleted all my emails(4500 of them) and now they are in the trash can. As it is my work phone, i furiously tried to retrieve them to no avail. I am at a dead end, i would appreciate any kind of help.
The account is not gmail but my work's (pop3 server), should it help.

Thank you in advance

Welcome to Android Central! That must be really stressful.😧 Which email app are you using? Is it the stock email app client that came with the phone?

It seems unusual to delete all locally saved emails just by accidental screen touches while the phone is in your pocket -- I would wonder about some other glitch that might have happened. I assume that you had the POP3 server set to delete emails on the server as soon as they're downloaded to the phone?

Were you trying to do a mass-restore of all of the trashed emails? If so, what if you try to restore one or two of them individually?

I know this is a little too late, but relying on such an outdated protocol like POP3 is really risky. One should never rely on a single storage location for important data, and if emails are being deleted from the server as soon as they're downloaded to the phone, then that's exactly what's happening. IMAP is a much safer (and more convenient) protocol, since the emails remain on the server until you choose to delete them.

Hello to you too! I've been using the default app (Email) that came with the phone.
Maybe it was a glitch, i figured though it was an accident since deletions can be done without confirmation on the app(i have disabled that feature since).

The thing is there is not seemingly a way to restore these mails from the trash bin - there is no "Restore" choice in any of the menus, and the phone tutorials were of no help at all. Moreover, i do not know when these will be deleted from the phone.

Thank you in advance for your response

I can see them, yes but i cannot move them from the trash bin.
The emails are saved in the work interface but, as i am working remotely for large periods of time and my phone is used primary for sending/receiving emails.

Do the emails in the Trash Bin have checkboxes? If so, what options do you see if you check them?

If they don't have checkboxes, then what happens if you long-press an email in the list?

It's possible the Trash Bin can only hold a finite amount of data temporarily (much like the Windows Recycle Bin), and since you accidentally trashed >4000 emails, perhaps not all of them are accessible.

I can select the emails in the trash bin by longpressing but the only options are
- flag as read/unread
- delete from trash bin
- select all

They are all accessible rn, but i do not know for how long.

Ok, here is a screenshot (the language is Greek btw)
When longpressing a message in the Trash Bin, the sub-menu has 3 choices (from left to right):
Mark as Read/Unread, Delete , Select AllScreenshot_20240925_175105_com.huawei.email.jpg

That's pretty strange. I assume that if you mark a trashed email as Unread, it still remains in Trash?

If you haven't already, try opening one email, then tap any menu button you see (i.e., a 3-dot menu button). Any pertinent options there?

The only options when opening a menu on a trash bin email are Mark as Read/Unread, Print or Add to Calendar. The usual stuff are there too (reply, reply to all, forward etc), but nothing else.

I don't know exactly how the stock email app on your phone works (I'm only familiar with the Gmail app), but it's possible that if the trash bin gets totally overloaded, it might not be able to restore any of those emails.
