Huawei Phone Emoticons

I have a Huawei Ascend Y300 and the emoticons appear as characters rather than emoticons. For example T_T O :-! ;-) are all emoticons when I type them but they appear as characters. Only this 囧 appears as emoticon. Why is this?

Emojis aren't official supported before 4.4
You'll need to use a messaging app like Hangouts to be able to see and send them
