I'm getting a free case from Motorola, I've torn between the Black Frost Gelli Case and the Hula Bumper. I'm also going to have a screen protector on it, do both of these work with screen protectors?

Just wondering everyone's thoughts?

i like full case over bumper.

That's my thoughts too, but I like the color options of the Hula Bumper, as well as having a clear view of the back.

My big thing though, I just want to know if these cases work without peeling up the edges of a screen protector.

I have Hula bumper and screen protector. No problems.

...adding, don't think the bumper provides that much physical protection, but it makes a big difference improving the grip and hold of the phone, which is important protection in preventing drops.

I had 2 gellis on moto x 2014s. One worked well but the other had a flaw and the buttons were either constantly being pushed or even after adjusting the tiniest touch would trigger the button. If you get a flawed gelli case make sure you get it replaced. It should have a nice feel to the buttons.

The case mate hula bumper is complete junk. Waste of $20 IMO. Had it for about a week, the hard plastic that holds the bumper's shape started to fall apart. I kept using it and started to get worse as time progressed. All the hardened plastic pieces ended up cracking. My only explanation, the bumper wasn't meant to be flexed or twisted in any way. But its nearly impossible because that's the only way for the bumper to be installed on the phone.

Once it gets twisted or flexed, the integrity of the bumper gets compromised. You'll notice cracks all along the edges. I'm due time, pieces will just flake off.

Do yourself a favor. Save the $20 and buy a cheap $3-$10 tpu clear case from amazon. Had I known, I would not had bought 2 of them (one for me and the other for the gf).

You must have received a defective one (or I received a rare good one) because mine has none of the issues you describe. Mine has zero cracks, flakes or defects, fits properly, has been uninstalled/reinstalled several times without incident and still looks brand new.

You must be one of the lucky few. Because it is certainly a great product (when its working properly). Had I read the Amazon's reviews prior, I would had passed on it. But since I didn't and read it AFTER my purchase, joke was on me. There were plenty of buyers that had the same issue... Sucks.

Are you willing to sell me yours? Lol

Moto is sending me a white Hula bumper case for free. If it doesn't work, no big deal...it was free lol. I have a code for $25 off a case from Moto's website. But I'd still have to pay shipping, so I may see if they'll send me a Gelli case too. I like to see what I can talk them into sending me. When I got my OG Moto X, I got a $15 screen protectors, a $25 case, and $40 soul earbuds.

Completely unrelated, my fiance wants a case with a "cool design or something", are the ones on amazon any good?

I've been very happy with the Hula bumper case. Mine is the black & gray one, not sure if that makes any difference. I remove and install it frequently and no issues whatsoever after a couple of months of use. I got the bamboo back so didn't want to cover it up at all but it is quite slippery, so this adds some needed grip. Screen protector works just fine. The lip both front and back keeps the screen or back from touching anything when you lay it down and if you pocket your phone, it makes it real easy to hook your finger around the edge when pulling it out of your pocket.

I'm a big fan of trying out the cases on Amazon. I'm using a Cimo TPU Flexible Soft Case backcover on mine, which is working well. It's not perfect, since part of it is frosted (would be perfect if it was completely clear), but it was super affordable and does the job nicely. If you want to try out different cases and not spend a ton of money, Amazon's not a bad way to go.

Those were just a few of the cracks. There are plenty more by the volume rocker and the corner edges.

The bumper looks like it had been through a war zone... But ironically, it never did. Just sits in my pockets and cup holder of my car...

Dunno, maybe from vibration of car while phone is in your cup holder? When in my car, I use a Kenu Airframe Plus. After two months, mine still looks good as new.

Not to drag this on any longer than it already has. But I wasn’t the only one that had the same issues with the bumper. There were plenty of buyers that had the same problems (Amazon reviews). Maybe it was because of a faulty batch that was made? Poor QC on the initial products? I really don’t know. But all I can say is, I bought 2 of the Hula bumpers, one for my phone and the other for the girlfriend’s. Both didn’t last a week. Typically, we are pretty gentle with our electronics. So that can’t be reason why the bumper is falling apart… I just checked the Case Mate site. Ironically, they changed the Case-Mate Hula Bumper to Case Mate Tough Case… Maybe Case Mate fixed their problems and at the same time, they changed the product name… And maybe that’s why tons of us had issues and others didn’t? Maybe?

But I am thinking of giving the Supcase a shot... I'm not a fan of bulky cases. But we're quite limited to "simple" cases for the Moto X 2014. Casemate was the only feasible option...
