I added MagSafe to my Pixel Fold. It worked better than I expected

I love MagSafe, but the stick on rings are a bit fugly. I prefer a good case with MagSafe built in.

Also, are you sure no one on the Android side thought of doing this? I invite you to take a closer look at the old Moto Mods before you give apple too much credit.

Palm Pre had this fifteen years ago (RIP Palm). I've wondered why nobody else had it for years. Copyright maybe?

You had me until the very last paragraph regarding car mounts. Overall I think this is a plus that Android can take advantage of this.

I think it will depend on your stuff and where you're driving. Obviously a magnetic mount probably wouldn't put up with serious off roading, but, some companies have rock solid magnet arrays. Peak Design are one, mophie/zagg are also prettty strong. I've also heard ESR are one of the strongest, but I've never used any of their stuff.

All this with the Caveat that I don't drive lol.

I came here to point this out. Pre was ahead in so many things. (The card system for open apps is another one that Pre had.) I doubt that a magnet mount patent, in general, stopped anything. Probably just took accessories this long to catch up to the Touchstone charger. I *still* don't have a charger that's as good in terms of security and viewability.

"Every once in a while, Apple debuts something on its phones that makes us Android folks wonder why someone on this side didn't already think of that."

Actually, Android did think of it before Apple. The Google Nexus 5 (2013) had embedded magnets in its back plate that could be used to connect/align to its companion wireless charger.
