G3 hands down. Z3 is pure hype. My wife has Z3 and brother has G3, so am aware of both.

Z3, has better battery life, front facing speakers, is waterproof, and offers a near stock experience. Camera is also quite good, although I don't know how it compares the g3's. I'd go with the z3, unless you want a bigger screen size.

Z3 works better feels thinner and more expensive takes better pictures lasts longer runs faster is water 'resistant' sounds better

Used both.

Z3 front speakers doesn't even sound better or louder than Galaxy S4. Voice is muffled. Display is not better than G3 and had pinkish hue even after manually adjusting in settings. And once you use auto brightness display is horrible again. Also viewing angles are not good. The only positive thing I see from Z3 is water proofing and battery life. If that's what you need go for Galaxy S5 and use Nova or Google launcher.

I just got my Z3 a week ago. Battery life is amazing compared to my N5. I got it for that reason mostly, but also for the front speakers and camera. Waterproof is only for rainy days for me.

The Z3 for me has been a near perfect phone. Battery life is great, front facing speakers are really nice. The screen is just gorgeous and the camera is a beast.(although I feel Sony has not cared enough about the camera software-it could be a lot better in terms of processing) You can pair your PS3(in my case)/PS4 controller to play games(Sonic, Asphalt 8) and actually navigate the phone without doing all that rooting stuff(I am new to Android so I don't know the benefits to rooting). Call quality is pretty decent. The biggest letdown for me is Sony's support and carrier hurdles. I would've liked to see Sony address some of the camera shortcomings with a software update and the Lollipop update fiasco has been a nightmare.(the window for the update has been extended and just seems like an afterthought at this point)Not to mention on T-Mobile the Z3 was discontinued quickly and just recently brought back. Lastly for me, I don't like the fact that Sony has (at least initially) decided against including the Camera2 API along with their version of Lollipop which would have given eager camera enthusiasts like myself the ability to shoot in RAW and have access to manual focus and shutter speed control through third party apps that offer these features(I came from Windows Phone and the Lumia 1020 where all these options were already present). So really the only thing holding back the Z3 is Sony's either lack of effort or complete ignorance of the competition's efforts and in my case the carrier influence which have been slooooow to update the device. If I were you I'd go with the LG G4 or the Samsung Galaxy S6.

For me the biggest benefit of rooting is to tether without it being reported to the carrier. Once I hit 3GB tether I get a block ad. Haven't decided if I want to go down that road with the Z3 yet
