So Yes my screen was on for Over a hour but 5 hours really, on the extended battery? This is the worst I have ever gotten. I flashed back to stock from aokp because I was getting about 7 hours battery life. Now on stock jelly bean I get 5 hours? I was on an older rom that was jelly bean and I used to get 14 hours. What am I doing wrong here? Screen is on auto brightness, don't have any widgets, running nova launcher. Gps is turned off, bluetooth also off. ???

I would suggest turning Google Now off. Once I did that I started seeing a huge improvement.

It's in Google Now>Settings>Google Now>and there's an On/Off toggle at the top. Also it's usually recommended to leave auto brightness off. I hope I was able to help a bit! :)

One thing I noticed in your screen shot was your wi-fi. Were you in one place this whole time? Maybe turn off your wi-fi when you know that you won't be using it. It looks like it was often searching for networks.

I usually hit 8/9 hours at about 25-30% (extended battery, too). That's when I plug it in for the drive home. It does seem like JB has started using more juice than ICS. Google Now seems a likely culprit, but I like having it handy, so I keep a charging cable handy.

In addition to wifi OFF when not needed, I leave OFF Bluetooth, and have brightness set to 50%.

Let us know your progress.

Do you use automatic brightness by chance? I was using it all the time in ICS, but with jellybean I was getting terrible battery life too. I noticed that the screen seemed brighter than usual with the automatic brightness checked, so I turned it off and set the brightness to 50% or lower. My battery life is back to normal. Seems like automatic brightness may be set too high in jellybean.

That's not too bad.. I can't get 2 hours of screen time. I'm on auto-brightness and usually indoors.

I'm a little confused? Where in the screenshot do you see an indication he had the WIFi on at all?

This should be in the battery life thread. I was having the same issues, now it seems to be a bit better. I didn't do anything but install OS monitor. Do you have light flow? It doesn't really work with JB yet, and I'm wondering if it is creating an issue.

So today I read the thread and I took auto brightness off, and put it at 50% brightness. Granted the phone was on stand by most of the day, because I was at work. So I have a 1h and 7m's screen on time.Still the screen is eating up so much of my battery as well as Cell Standby. Jelly bean just seems to eat batteries. No I don't use light flow. Any other ideas I haven't turned off google now, but wouldn't that show under battery statistics if it was being used?

Best battery life I've ever seen
Got down to 17% at 22 hours, made my day.

Apps, apps, apps. It's almost always apps that cause battery drain. Here's what I did to prove that...

I was getting terrible battery life. So, I did all the recommended things. I turned off wifi. I turned off GPS. I turned brightness way down. Then I turned off LTE and used only CDMA. It helped some, but not much.

So, I used the "scientific method" to determine the issue. You remember that from school, hold all things constant and only change one variable at a time.

I wiped my phone. Factory reset. Then I waited a day. Battery life was excellent. Then I installed ONE app. I waited a day. Battery life was still good. Then I installed another app. Waited another day. Battery life still good. I kept this up, one app per day. Finally, after I installed Shazam, the music identification app, my battery life went to hell. I can't say if it was just Shazam or it's interaction with another app but once I uninstalled Shazam the battery life improved again.

So, now I'm very, very careful about which apps I install and I never install more than one a day. And, after I install an app I watch my battery very carefully.

I now leave Wifi, GPS, LTE on ALL OF THE TIME with negligible battery hit.

This is the only true method to determine what is eating your battery.

I was wondering myself about the Auto-brightness thing with its effect on your battery. Do most people leave it off (I generally just leave it on). Does the majority feel like @50% brightness the battery life definitly improves over the auto brightness-or what is the sweet spot % to have a decently lit screen vs its effect on your battery?

What was the life with and without Shazam?

I can't quantify it as I didn't keep track. However, the drain was noticeable. However, that was a long time ago when I did that. I currently have Shazam on my phone and it doesn't drain the battery. One of several things has happened. 1) Shazam changed their program. 2) Shazam was interacting with another program and I no longer have that other program on my phone.

I periodically cleanse my phone with a clean install. It's amazing what that does to battery life and performance. And, it's amazing what I don't reinstall.
