I am having a problem with emojis . They show up as weird symbols .. Why ?

This is my gf phone but she sent a screen shot so i can post it & see if you guys have any clue.. if so please help lol.. When android/iphone devices send her emojis they come in as weird symbols ... Anyone else having this problem ?

I would say it is your SMS App. If you don't mind, try using the default SMS app or Hangouts for a minute to see if they work there!

(Also, what SMS App is that?! )
