i am in a bind

I am really liking touchwiz. But want to try some roms.

Though i dont know if i really want to root my phone.

I had an optimus s i had rooted and installed many roms.

But my cousin has the samsung captivate, and every time i would use odin, his phone would get a softbrick, for a while thought we hard bricked it.

I just don't know if i want to take the chance. What do u think i should do? Am i less likely to have the probs with odin and the s3?

I had a couple of HARD bricks with odin. So I will not say it can't happen. But I've used odin with my gs3 close to 20 times now without an issue. As a matter of fact I haven't heard of a single case where odin was the cause for bricking a gs3 yet.
