Because the Galaxy J series don't support wireless charging. They don't have the hardware for it. Basically, there's nothing out of the ordinary happening in your situation. The Samsungs that have wireless charging are the S series and Note series after 2015, and the higher end A series since 2016 (A7, A8)
The iPhone and Samsungs are using the same wireless charging tech (since neither of them developed it, and it's industry standard), so it's also normal that the iPhone will charge on it.
