I can receive messages but I can't receive them PLEASE HELP

My phone has these little "episodes" where it says my messages failed and I have tried restarting my phone and shutting it down and airplane mode and everything. I also have signal and my phone still receives messages, they just won't send. Then after a while, they start sending again without warning. Someone please tell me how to end this problem. It's extremely annoying.

Which "messages" are you referring to - email;Gmail;SMS/MMS?
Which app are you using?
Are you on Verizon? What firmware are you running?
