I cannot update my galaxy s4 mini

I can not check for updates on my galaxy s4 mini I went into my device but I do not see check for updates all I see is status and the other stuff. Can someone plz give me another way for checking updates or how to update my phone. Plzzzzz help me

Welcome to Android Central! You're talking about system updates, not app updates, right? The usual place to check for system updates is Settings>About Phone>System Updates. If you don't see that, then your phone might be rooted and running a custom ROM. Did you buy the phone brand new, or is it used?
