i cant get into recovery mode in my galaxy tab 2 7

[Android Central Question]

so, I have an old galaxy tablet 2 7 that I haven't touched in 2 years, so I decided to turn it on, try to recover files and try to get past the lock screen(because I don't remember the password). but to do that every program that I use tells me to go to recovery mode, I know that to do that you must press the power button and the volume button at the same time, yet no matter how many times I have tried it just doesn't work, it just turns on, I checked if the volume buttons worked and they work perfectly fine(even better than the power button!)
