I can't get SIM/carrier internet, only Wifi

I bought a used phone from a repair shop. Nice guys, great service, but I trust no one so I wiped and reset the phone back to factory settings as soon as I got home. It's a Motorola and it has Android 10. It's been sitting on a desk for a few days with Wifi access only.

Today, I tried two SIM cards in it for the first time. They seem to be detected and their respective carrier names are displayed. But I can't use their internet.

I have two other phones here. The two SIM cards work on them, I can get internet on them and the other phones. But they fail to get internet on the Motorola/Android 10.

I am of course very inclined to going back to the shop where I bought the phone and claiming it is defective. Unless you people have some great wisdom to share that will solve the problem. Do you?

Thanks for any help.

I went back to the shop. While on my way, the internet decided to work on the phone. Almost getting there, it didn't work anymore.

At the shop, the expert tested his own SIM in it, two SIMs actually, and they worked. He determined that my SIM is too old (5 years, the other I left at home is 7 years old) and that I should go to the carrier's official store and have my SIM replaced.

I will probably try that. What other choice do I have?
