I can't justify the purchase.

I have an amazon echo and love it, it does everything I need. But I love all things google, My life is built into google and has been since the begining. So I alomost bought Google home today. Then I thought why? Echo does eveything Google home does and somewhat better for now. I have a Pixel XL and I get everyhting i need from Google Assistant using the device. Unless Google comes out with some other features the Echo doesn;t have I'm not sure I can get on board with this.

I preordered echo day one. I also preordered home day one. A few days with home and it does everything echo did and more. I also like the sound better. I will probably sell my echo.

The only thing thing that the Echo really does better is support for Smart Home devices... so if you've already invested in Smart Home devices that Google Home doesn't support I can understand why it wouldn't be a good option at this time. But for me I only have Philips Hue bulbs which Google Home supports.

The big reason why I'm getting Google Home is because of its search capabilities. The echo just doesn't compare to Google home as far as answering your search questions.

I plan on testing Google Home for a bit and then selling my Echo... considering the list price is $180, I could probably get $100 for the Echo, which is what I paid for it.

I agree But I use Spotify most of the time on echo and it does well for what i need. I only have hue so google home would win that i find the echo to be anoying sometimes and doesnt work.

I don't have any smart home devices so that means nothing to me.
So why did you buy it? Just to ask it questions? I'm just curious.

I'm with you Zigg. I've gone to Best Buy twice to buy one of these things and always talk myself out of it lol. I've got Spotify (for free) and GPM so as far as music goes there's no benefit to me switching. The Echo can just do more now. I know Google is going to be adding more functionality, but they don't even have reminders right now. That's a huge oversight as they could actually alert me on my phone, as well, where Amazon couldn't. Maybe I'll eventually grab one.

What do you mean? That's not it's primary use. It's a speaker to play music. It can control Chromecast. It answers questions. Sets alarms and timers. It has many uses beyond lights and nest.

Yeah if I'm gonna pay for a speaker, I'm gonna pay for a truly good one so that's why I'm curious. I never use my Echo speaker to play music. I have a surround sound system for that. A lot of reviews I've read refer to Echo and Home as ways to control your smart devices so I was just curious what your main uses for it was. I have lights, locks. Fans, and thermostats that are connected so that's my use case.

When google matures it will be better than echo IMO, I do use echo to listen to music, ask questions, turn on and off lights (change color) ect, Echo does bad at answering questions. It can't go into detail like home can. I give GH the advantage of that but, is this something to get now or wait a year until google releases Version 2 where it will do more. I do like the fact i can just tell GH to play youtune video's or cast music and it will. I am still on the fence but leaning hard towards getting one and selling or moving my echo to another room and use it there

Yeah I use my Echo and echo dots for music, but I don't use the built in speakers. I send it to my surround sound or whatever other speaker I have in the room. I feel like Google is going to release and version 2 and I'm going to be kicking myself for buying the first one.

I agree with everthing you say. However I'm going to keep my Echo because I have some smart devices that I don't think Google Home will support for a long while. Plus I like the option of two smart platforms.

I feel the same way, but who knows when V. 2 will come out maybe a year or more. Google Home will grow into a great platform, it's just how long will it take to get better.

It'll grow into a great platform, IF Google doesn't get distracted and do something else lol. That's also a concern I have. Do you guys think they'll release a cheaper version to compete with the dot?

I doubt it. the price point isn't bad for what it is. Like you said if google starts playing with and getting distracted as they always do with everything then it would hurt the platform. I really want ot go out and buy one but I keep stopping myself.

Yeah, I don't think it's a bad price point, but if you have a person who doesn't need a good speaker choosing between this and the Echo products, 50 for a dot is an impulse buy. They should have a dot competitor.
