I can't see emojis but I can send them. Help???

I have a galaxy S5 and I can send emojis just fine to everyone else and they show up on their end. When someone tries to send them to me (from another android phone) they just show up on my phone as the little green droid head with heart eyes. I checked the message setting and it is set to automatic so if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.
