I can't seem to free up enough space to download update

I have transferred over a ton of pictures (all, basically, that I could find) from my S5 to my computer but I still couldn't do the update of the phone's software. I stopped at the Verizon store, and they indicated I should take out my memory card (so "it wouldn't be confused," reconnect the phone, cable, look in the pictures, DCIM, etc. It indicates there's only 485 mb free of 10.5 gb! That being said, I can't find what's hogging all the space. I am not finding more pictures. I can't find any folders (and I feel like I've been through every folder listed) that have a lot in them. What am I missing?

It could be apps and cache. I'd suggest deleting some of the most unused apps and see if that helps. Also, try deleting the cache to see if that frees up some space to get you updated.

I can't imagine it's just apps and cache. I have some apps, but not a ton. I now notice when I actually go into the phone/gallery, there's pictures within albums. Why can't I see them on my computer? I've looked under phone/pictures and phone/DCIM/camera. They're there. I just can't find them.
