I continually find that I am typing accented characters, how can I turn this feature off?

I continually find that I am typing accented characters

Using Galaxy Note 4. This suddenly seems to have started happening and I can't get my fingers off the keys quickly enough to stop this happening.

How can I turn this feature off?

The inly other lanuage I use in French, therefore it would be useful to maintain the accents for French.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the Samsung keyboard? Most keyboard apps (including Google Keyboard and Fleksy) allow you to adjust the tap & hold delay, so go to Settings>Language & Input​ and look in the keyboard settings.
