"i" crossed out in notification bar?

It was a joke. One one phone has it. I'm betting it's the husband's. ahhh... never mind.

Scrool down notification bar and on the top theres a notification button just turn it on and the I on the screen will go away.

Since my phone did the upgrade to 4.1.2 all by itself (pretty darn clever I thought), I no longer have the notification button option either in the top or in the list of available ones to put on/take off the panel. Why is that?

I used to get - and I think it was when the smart alert was on - a little envelope or a missed call icon within a bubble. That's not now happening and it's bugging the hell out of me. Can anyone help me get it back?:(

Thank you. Despite years and years of UI development, mysteries like this still happen when buttons are accidentally pressed and there is no help attached to the icon.

Its a feature in ICS to turn off notifications. It means that you won't be notified for new messages, missed calls etc. in notification bar. Just pull down the notification bar, swipe to left and you'll see an icon of this "crossed out i". Press it and it will disappear from the notification bar.
this is what worked for me

When I had this problem this is what happened and how I fixed it.

I was simply watching a video on facebook.. before I backed out of the video or finished watching it I just clicked my lock button. So I went back and finished watching it because I could back out anymore because of the lock symbol on the video and once it was done I backed out and the I crossed out went away. Pretty simple.

Exactly. The same thing happened to me and if you look up when you pull down ur notifications bar, you see where you turn wifi, bluetooth, gps etc. There should be a button that says notifications with an 'I' like the one in ur notification bar, but it isn't crossed out. It must be turned off turn it on and it should go away.

Crossed i = notification off = you dont get any notification alert, (sms, fb twitter and other apps notification, update etc)

In older android turning it on and off should easy. Press down or swipe down your status bar where there is signal or time. You see icon like wifi gps bluetooth etc and you will find icon of letter i press it to "on" or "off"
