I didn't know that you can do this!

Wasn't aware of that ability, but with how much faster the internal storage is I don't intend to use the feature.

...and 512GB available internally! I have a 128GB SD Card with nothing on it, all my apps, all my music, all my photos and video are on my 512GB Internal Storage and I still have 443GB free! But then, I guess I don't have as much as some folks either...

Since i jumped from jellybean to nougat I can't say anything lollypop or marshmellow but this function has been available since nougat

Do apps run slower?

What is the advantage of doing this, since the least internal storage is 128GB?

I'm not sure, i just came across this info and wanted to share it. i have a friend who has his 128 gb almost filled with music and videos, so i thought maybe someone else may find this info useful

Music and videos is what I would move to SD, not apps. This will free up his 128 gb and he won't have to worry about his apps if he pulls the card out. To each his own, though.

This feature was available on Note 8 aswell. But the downside is that everytime there was an update to the app it would again come back on the internal memory. So gave up.
Further I travel a lot internationally. I always have a local sim for that country. So I need to remove the sd card to install the second sim as I need both the sims running.

I'm fairly sure that's not what that option in developer options does, since it's been there since Marshmallow on Samsungs and I've always used that.
What it does is it disregards the manifest in the app files which states whether an app can be moved to SD card or not. When you install an app, it still goes to internal memory as normal. However, the Move app to SD card will always be available unless the app is tagged as system, so you can click that and move the app.

Yep, that's what I do. Well, no movies, but all my (Spotify) music goes to my SD card.

While it's nice that the option is there, I wouldn't enable it. I have had some bad luck with 3 different SD cards in my Samsungs in the past.

All my music pics and some apps are sent to the sd card. Phone storage always at a min.

Always makes me nervous to put pictures there in case something happens to the SD card and the photos haven't uploaded to Flickr or google yet.

I'm the opposite. I'd rather have it on SD card. If my phone dies, how do I get the photos out of internal storage? SD card can just be pulled out and plugged into a computer. I buy good quality SD cards. Never had a issue.

with the 512GB Note 9 I don't even use the SD card slot and have everything backed up to the cloud. When I did use a SD card it was not a good idea to use it for apps to be installed on as it would cause issues in the long run.

i have some rarely used apps on the SD card, what happens to them on the sd card?

Like others stated, if for some reason the sd card has a problem it's going to affect that app and probably make phone sluggish in that process. I would only keep photos and music and back those up in smart switch just in case something happens to the sd card .
