I don't think this is a good idea.

Is it because they still use HTC and Samsung kernel?

Yeah. Also the reason AOSP won't have the One and S4 Roms. Scares me a bit. I've been staring at my checkout with a GPe One in it for the last 2 days. I just can't seem to pull the trigger.

Just do it. You will have no regrets :)

Re: I on't think this is a good idea.

Well I have a Nexus 4 and feel there should only be one phone like this.

The reason I'm getting the HTC One from Google is so I can have my Nexus 4 experience with 4G. Plus I actually love the design of the HTC One! My only complaint (at least until I get it) is the price.

I would like LTE if it was just as cheap as HSDPA 42 and had more coverage.

The $30 T-Mobile prepaid plan has LTE access if you change the APN, so it is really the same price as HSPA+. The coverage does suck for TMobile in most places, but I live in Southern California and even though they have not officially listed where they have rolled out LTE it is all over the place down here. It is not like the AT&T or Verizon LTE that covers the "whole" city they roll it out in, T-Mobile seems to be on more of a tower by tower basis. Overall I am impressed, and it is not bad to fall back onto their superfast 3G HSPA+ network. That being said, if I was a T-Mobile only customer I would pick the S4GE simply because the 1700MHz frequency is missing on this phone.

I have the N4 and just got the ONE GE. I am excited to get LTE on my Vanilla phone (I have an unlocked HTC One X that I use for the AT&T and TMobile LTE right now but Sense on that phone kills it). As for wether or not it is a "good idea", time will tell. All I know is that when the HTC One came out I said to myself that I would buy that phone if it ever had stock android on it. Overall I am glad they released it even though my wallet feels a heck of a lot lighter in the back pocket.

My sentiments Exactly!

I specifically avoided including the One for that reason - it lacks Micro SD support - thus cited only Galaxy S4 & Xperia Z. Micro SD capable phones are not new technology arriving only in 2013, so I am unsure as to why you are pointing to release dates. Indeed, for whatever reason, Google seems reluctant to offer Micro SD in the official Nexus line.

Are you seriously suggesting the HTC One is not a flagship device because it doesn't have a micro-sd card? wow that's low.

Camera features are not that important to me. As long as the results are good - not fantastic - I'm fine with the camera. I have no interest in Blink Feed.
This will be my fifth smartphone, and this time I wanted stereo speakers on the front, a metal body and Google's latest software. For me that meant the HTC One Google edition.
Is it the best smartphone available? It is for me.
Now if Friday will just get here.
