So after hours of playing around and talking to others i decided to try wifi.

Hit menu-setting-wireless&network-

Turn on wifi

Turn off mobile network (MAke sure you do this or it wont help

phone call *#*#4636#*#* phone info- select cmad auto (prl)

Before the best i could do was 4hrs and 10min on a battery of AWAKE Time

Well i have had my phone setup this way connected to my wifi and i am at

3 hrs 26min uptime

2 hrs 48min of awake time

with 73% battery left

Normally i would be at about 30-40% right now.

Try it and see

I have a post going most people are only getting 2-4hrs awake time check it out http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-thunderbolt/71090-read-first-post-then-post-battery-results.html

But after doing the above awake times are way better

But then i was thinking i should have a flip phone and a ipod if im going to use wifi and most people wont be able to do this But mobile network is killing the battery!!!

yeah wifi is much better, should always use it if you can.

Kinda sucks though if you have 4g lol. Who wants to use 2mbit public wifi when you can have 30mbit mobile network.

Shouldn't wifi automatically disable the verizon network from running? How much actual screen on time is that?

they say it does disable it but it still drains the battery that is why i said turn off mobile network

2 hrs 48min of awake time

with 73% battery left

sad i used to try to save the battery now im trying to kill it and i cant...

Seems to be the case for me. When at home it seems my battery lasts for quite a long time on wifi. At large is when it seems to drop.

Is the 2:48 Awake time you're talking about under Uptime when you click battery? If so go into battery use and look for the percentage and select display and what Time On is.

3hrs 38min since unplugged

display 61% time on 2hrs 53min

I know its unbelievable

I already bought a droid x off ebay to replace this phone so i could wait for something better to come out so i didnt waste my update discount but now im not happy and thinking this phone might work for me...

well i did the wifi with mobile on yesterday and only got 4hrs 10min today at this rate with mobile off im going to get about 6 hrs if it dies evenly like my phone usually does.

Sounds like you're getting close to your 6.3 hours of talk time spec with general use after all, using Wifi at least. But still not shabby. Still have your display on auto brightness?

I just used the Phone Info program from the market to toggle off 4G. I unplugged this morning at 6am. about 25 calls via BT headset, 100 e-mails, 15 text, light browsing at lunch. 70% at 4PM. Can't complain about 10 hour at work and not having to plug in all day. My dinc would have been dead by lunch.

what's the point to turning off mobile network (ie 4G)? The only reason I purchased this phone is for 4G Speed. LOL.

Thats why im returing it because with 4g on i get 2-3hrs of use

with all the networks off and wifi on im going to get more then 6hrs of screen on time vs only 2-3

well you will get no text messages if you disable mobile network, so that is not an option for me. Yea wifi will always improve battery, thats a given.

3G works just fine for e-mail. I use 4G when I teather my laptop and I am able to plug in then so no big deal. That was the may reason I got it.

Comparing battery life from my Dinc to the TB 3G with all the same programs and usage the TB wins hands down. With 4G it is a battery pig.

The toggle is easy to turn on & off 4G when I need it. I just don't have a reason for it to be unning 24/7, but I have the speed when I need it.

I think what the OP is tying to say is this works for him, and guess what, it works for me to, heres why:

I have a blazing fast home connection. WAY faster than 4G so I would PREFER to be on wifi while home. When I leave home I am in a 4G extended area so 3G is fine for me there so I leave the phone on CDMA auto PRL. When I got work I have the option to switch over to 4G for the speed.

Remember this tho.... Why leave 4G on when the phone is idle and may be for 4 hours or so?? App updates, weather etc will do just fine on 3G. Then when you turn on the phone to use it, go 4G for the speed.

Lets face it, 4G is a juice hog, and there is no need to keep it enabled ALL THE TIME.

My home connection:

Just to be clear, this toggle everyone is referring to is the ## phone number, or is there a new app that toggles between 4g and 3g that i don't know about?

I started using the Y5 app, it was explained that it remembers towers that you use and wifi and will automatically put you on that network without searching.

I downloaded that in middle of day so I'll see what its like over the next few days.
