out of the box my nexus 7 would not power on, charged for an hour, i can manage to see the charging logo and somehow get the "google" screen, but it flashes off and on again about 5 times before showing a completely digitally screwed "stars/dots" screen with flickering back-light...Managed to get into the android recovery but buttons are non-responsive.

filed an RMA with google, waiting for a follow up e-mail. Anything i should try in the mean time? Tried hard reset it just goes off and it takes a while to do anything. Sometimes the screen will be black for 5 minutes and then out of nowhere 'google' will pop up, in an infinite loop of course.

really wanted this thing for the weekend...:(

That stinks. You could always go buy one from a store, and just return and cancel the order from Google.

Have you tried to boot using ADB? I had this happen to my N7, it had died and then plugged in all night, but I was only able to do what you explained in your situation. The screen got all garbled and all I could go was see the Google screen.

What I did was boot into the green android, hooked it up to my computer and did a fast boot reboot. N7 has worked fine ever since.

Good luck!

well the problem is the green android screen in non-responsive if its plugged into a PC or charger...strange. When on battery i can select start, recovery, etc..but all of those get me nowhere, recovery simply shows the google logo indefinitely, as does start. Is there a button method for fast reboot? or do i need to select "reboot" in the android recovery screen thing? Right now it says google on and off and goes nowhere.

Are you on a Mac or PC? It shouldn't really make a difference, but I just wanted to make sure.

I'd do a walkthrough for you but I am anticipating my power going out with Isaac about to hit me. I've got my computers unplugged. I'm going off of my memory here.

You want to Google ANDROID SDK and download and extract it.

You might want to poke around in it, its really powerful.

Any way I put it on my desktop.
Find Android SDK/platform tools
Open a terminal window in this folder.
plug in the N7 with a USB port

Type: adb fast boot reboot

Sorry for the bare bones walkthrough, hit this link up it should really help.

I think the biggest issue is my PC (windows 7) does not recognize the nexus when plugged in, it says "device not recognized" or "drivers not installed".

Ill give your advice a shot and post back, appreciate the help!
